I like reading because it takes me on an adventure, or let's me be in some one else's shoes for a while. I tell my children it's like watching a movie in your head you get to decide what the characters and scenery look like to you. It is transporting.

I read books because that has been my way of learning a new language that im still strengthening. I am able to listen and understand further details about opinions that I probably at the beginning did not share or was not aware of. When I read a book, I get more connected to a culture, to another age, to this world and to another worlds. Is just incredible how there are no frontiers for a book, and how feelings are portrayed through words regardless of time.

I totally love this, well said.
I do love reading as you say, get more connected with a culture, feelings and how different worlds are portrayed through the written word! I love to read a book, when we connect and I can live and feel with the characters. A good book takes you to another world, a world of magic and possibilities. It is a shame that sometimes you get a good story in a book but the enjoyment is spoilt by the author's inability to tell the story. It can be a painful reading but; I stick with it if the story is good.
A good book is your best friend, and you feel at a loss when it ends.

I love reading because it takes me from my world to a world where anything is possible, dreams come true, and the characters that were made up by someone come to life and you watch it play out in front of your eyes. It doesn't matter what is going on in my life or how i am feeling, i know that i can just open a book and begin reading then nothing else matters for that time. For me, it's an escape. And a chance to learn more about myself and what i believe in.

Hi Everyone,

I teach as a professor so I read all the time. Sometimes I might have three or four books going on. I love to read because it keeps me up-to-date on issues as well as keeps my brain active. One of my most favorite activities is to read while I am working out. It makes the time go bye so fast. I'm not sure how might life would have been without the ability to read.

I have always been an avid reader...even as a child. I enjoyed it for different reasons in different seasons of my life. As a youngster, I read the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy Series. As I got older, I began reading biographies and autobiographies. Then I moved on to self-help and spiritual writings. Now I am into crafting books and fiction.

So, I guess I first read for entertainment, then to gain a knowledge of others in the world, then to 'find' myself, and now to escape life's difficulties, learn new artforms, and attempt to create some beauty in the world.

I'm not exactly sure if I would consider these periods as spring, summer, fall, and winter....but, at my age...it is certainly likely.

Well said. I enjoy it for similar reasons. Taking a journey only you can define for yourself is so exciting with every turn if the page. :)

I don't like reading. I LOVE reading! Why you say? It takes me to a different time period when I read historical romance. It takes me on a journey to other worlds when I read science fiction. It turns me into a super sleuth when I read mysteries, and it makes me afraid (in a good way) when i read horror. I just love the way it takes me away from my real world into a world just waiting too be discovered.

I like reading so much because I like being able to get lost in the book and the word the author created.

Love to learn like everyone else and getting a different point of view from others.
Also using my imagination and wonder if I would have done the same or different.
Meeting new people.
