Incentives: The Holy Water of Free Enterprise by George Franklin is a fictional novel that gives insights into political, economic, and religious manipulations. The book started on a dull note with too many characters to be acquainted with. But, as I read along, I understood what the writer was saying. Red Johansson, who was named Red immediately after his father saw him, was the key player in the book. Having gone through failures and setbacks and just on the verge of giving up on his career, he hit the big jackpot. Everything he ever dreamt of and wished for came to him through other people who also needed the big win.

Interestingly, the book explained how different characters cheated taxpayers and the government for their interests. The characters went from the self-acclaimed religious Senator Jaap Van Valkenberg and his wife, Berdenna, to Boone, the wealthy mogul and his team, who wasn't tired of damaging nature for his benefits, down to Audrey, the lover man at 94.

Bogey and Skeeter, Sean and Paddy are the types of people you would never think will amount to anything because they were turned to the bottle but eventually made it big. Will I call that luck or life? Armando and Rosa are other sweet characters who were celebrated married drug lords in the book. They also got their incentives from the government and support from the populace just by being smart and cunning. Red's wife is another character of interest in the book. Her personality makes me question the validity of the faith professed by many devotees. It was so funny how she didn't realise that she was being used as a resource despite her faithfulness.

Incentives: The Holy Water of Free Enterprise is a book to be read if one wants to understand the level of manipulations done in different life schemes. It's a book that delves into how people we think have our interest at heart show us how inconsequential we are to them. Glenn City, in this book, made individuals and politicians cash out big time. It was refined into a bubbling city well known in the states. But, it was later abandoned when there was no more use for it. I guess the same happens to people everywhere around the world. There are enough characters to learn from in the book, enough lessons to learn and enough jokes to laugh on.

I enjoyed the story, but I wouldn't say I like the book's arrangement. In the author's bid to keep his reader in suspense, the writer didn't make the story flow accordingly. He explained things to come before the present unfolded. I found some typos and grammatical blunders while reading this book but not enough to distract me from enjoying the book. With that, the book seems professionally edited. In addition, the book contains some adult-rated content and is unsuitable for young readers. People who already have doubts about religious leaders might use this book to boost their points.

I will recommend this book to political students, detectives, free thinkers and lovers of comedy novels. In all, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
