Review of Mirrored Worlds
Mirrored Worlds is an enchanting book with characters you have probably met before but presented in a whole new light.
In this book, Lila, Graute, and Battleaxe, the main characters, are on a highly confidential mission. A mission that seals the fate of their world and that of the other world. Their world is the magical world and the other world is the non-magical world. This mission is to retrieve an unmagical child born in their magical world. It sounds simple enough, but they have to do this undetected and the child has parents too. Undetected means taking the untraveled paths, passing through forests where the darkness seems to grow, moving around unimaginable monsters, and taking them on when you do alert them to your presence. It means navigating tunnels so dark that you start to believe you are blind, being ready to fight at all times, making the most unlikely allies, and making deals you are unsure of. It means trusting whoever is willing to help, sometimes even the wrong person because you need all the help you can get in a world so foreign and hostile. In short, Mirrored worlds is an adventure on paper, you get to fight as Battleaxe with an ax so big and sharp. You also get to aim fireballs so hot, they burn everything to ash using Lila's ward and as Graute, the elf, you get to walk so stealthily you can't make a sound even while you step on dry leaves.
Tayma Tameem develops her characters so well in this book in that as I read, I grew with the characters. This is in such a way that I progressed from believing the characters shallow, to seeing the beings that they are. For example, in the beginning, I thought Battleaxe to be a giant, just a military giant, that is there to follow orders, but as I read along, I discovered him to have a story, to see him in a whole new light, to love his personality. In short, I found getting familiar with the characters, each of them, a novelty.
I also loved the fact that the book was very well edited.
I did not dislike anything specific about the book. Only that, Mirrored Worlds is marked as 'Book 1' but I did not find any information about the next book in the series even in the advertisements of Tayma Tammeem's other books at the end of the book. The book also seems to drag at times but recovers soon after, so it is not felt.
Given that the book is a captivating read, very well-edited, and with engaging characters too, I give it a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I give it 3 not 4 stars because even though it's a well-written story, it's not yet complete and there is still room for a better-written story, in the next book maybe. I noted this in parts where I would've expected more details but were instead just hinted at. I, therefore, explained this away as something that would be further explored in the next book.
Mirrored Worlds is a perfect read for anyone whose cup of tea is an adventure/science fiction/fantasy novel. It is a great book that takes you along with the characters on an adventure. An adventure where the characters’ stories, wins, and defeat become yours. I recommend this book and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
