Reading this book was quite interesting to me. I find its content applicable to present life situations, especially the cases of racism tackled. I will recommend this book to those who love war novels.

As a huge fan of non-fiction books and memoirs, I really loved the book. The author's account felt extremely personal and he highlighted a lot of things that are usually left out or brushed over. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

This book was a great one as the author dig into the issue of racism and depict the fact that unity is strength and that we must all try to live together as one despite of our skin color. The communication style was one that pull the readers' attention.

We don't really talk about the devastating nature of racism and how it affects us all. I like that the author shared aspects of the Vietnamese war that isn't often shared in the American media and education. I would recommend this book to memoir and non-fiction fans because it recounts lots of experiences to enjoy.

I don't really like this book mostly because I am more of a fiction dude so I usually like reading books about myths but anyways I am not particularly interested in this book but reading it was a real fun because of how Billy talks about his days in Vietnam and it's racial issues.

This book was a real insight into the mindset of soldiers not just in Vietnam but in all wars where a uniform might not be as much of a symbol of uniformity as it seems. It shows how racism is a much deeper issue than most people in the West assume, and, in a place where lives are at risk, how much more pervasive it can truly be. I would rate it a 3/4 for its interesting content, however, the writing was amateurish in places so not a perfect read for me.

The author's extensive research into the Vietnam War was pretty outstanding. I also thought it was gutsy of him to address the subject of racism based on his personal experiences. The book was both engaging and enlightening for me. Such concerns are rarely mentioned, and instead are brushed under the rug, leaving people unaware that they are still very much alive and well. The growth of the characters was likewise on par. I honestly believe that such publications should be provided to the majority of people so that they can be informed and better prepared to deal with similar situations in the future. I give the book a four out of four star rating and would strongly suggest it to history students.

Because of the book's current relevance, I adored it. Racism, for example, is a prevalent issue in today's society. I am confident that other fans of war novels will enjoy this book as much as I did.

I really loved this book. I must commend the author for his passionate writing ability. This book is a non-fiction book and I must say I could not get enough of this book. This book is a must read for everyone because of the lessons it contained. Not minding our difference in any form let Love and Unity lead.

I am o fan of neither non-fiction nor books about a war. I realize this is akin to being an ostrich with its head in the sand, but I am just not interested. I will tell others about it because from other opinions it is good, but I can’t recommend it.
I understand your point, I used to hate war books and movies. Currently, they fascinate me, I have always seen war as an unjustified subject, read about it to try to understand.

There didn't seem to be any malice or agenda: the author just shared his unique experiences at a pivotal time in U.S. history. I rated this book 3 out of 4 stars. I deducted one star because of editing issues. I recommend this book to those who want to experience a soldier's personal stories within the overall backdrop of the Vietnam War. I learned a lot about Vietnam too.
I agree! When the author is straightforward, I feel it definitely makes for a better book. Sometimes when there's too much of their own opinion in one direction, the story feels forced.

What I like most about this book the the first person narration. Narration for me is always very important because it determines how much I get indulged in the reading. I trust authenticity of first person narrations because they are descriptive of even the emotions of the narrator which makes me indulge and connect more with the events, than when they are reported.
