It will be how much of history was infused into the story. I saw a lot of things that used to be a norm in the past, e.g. slavery.

What stood out for me in the book was the protagonist leader being a female. Most books males are the protagonist leader, but in this book I was impressed how Brandy stood out to be a strong character.

The book's blend of history, adventure, and fiction into such an excellent read is my favorite component of it. I also enjoyed the fact that it included a strong female protagonist, which is uncommon in historical fiction.

What stood out for me was the people's opinions against the slave trade and the historical aspect of the story.

What I loved most about this book was the new things I learned. For example, I thought that the freed slaves were safe. I didn't realize they were being recaptured and enslaved again. I love learning while I'm reading; reading a book is wonderful, but reading a book that teaches you something is the best :)

The book was captivating, for what it's worth. It has many great parts and a few lessons that I will never forget, but the one thing that really stood out was the characters. It was well picked by the author and well fitted into the story.

It would be self-sacrifice. There is no love without that. The characters in the book proved that over and over again.

I liked that the book had strong and powerful female characters. None of these characters were respected because of the caliber of man that they were standing behind. They earned that respect and everybody knew that.

I truly enjoy reading historical fiction, and this book did not disappoint. The self-sacrifice made by Brandy's mother to save her was one of my favorite things in this novel, but I have many favorites.

Good question! Slavery is the most trending theme in this book. I enjoyed when some people were against slavery. I appreciate the author for the book . I really repeat reading the book

My favorite aspect of the book is all of those scenes with her uncle. I love how he took care of her and made sure she was safe. He even shaved his head and died Brandy's hair, so that they cannot find them. He even used the savings he had to buy a tavern near the harbor. I love a doting father-like figure in any stories.

I loved the historical nature of the book, very immersive in my opinion. I also loved the incorporation of the slavery abolitionist movement as part of the story.

My favorite aspect of the book was how good-natured John Edwards is. He is such a gentleman and is strong in his beliefs for freedom. He stands up for what he believes, and he does not back down.

My favorite part of the novel was the depth of transformation displayed in Brandy’s storyline. Through an excellent supporting character named Zhang Yong, the author created a compelling story about a young woman who must redeem her past and learn to use her skills to protect the ones she loves. Brandy’s inner struggle created an engaging primary storyline.
