J.K. Rowling or Rick Riordan?

I think the Rowling's more successful because her audience began at a younger age. The first Harry Potter books were geared towards children. Riordan's were more for young adults I'd say. I like both of them as storytellers and think they're both great.

Rick Riordan all the way. It's quite difficult for me to like J.K. Rowling anymore after all the things she's said and done.

I loved both tremendously, the writing style is so different so I can't really compare them, though I prefer harry potter because of his successes in box office more.

They both are phenomenal authors, however statistically speaking J.K. has had a lot more success than Riordan. Her book series having global success alongside successful movies as well. Her books were a gateway for many young readers to explore their imagination and creativity. Not to say that Riordan's books weren't successful but retrospectively J.K. has had far more success and her books have continued to populate interest even as we are passing the eighteen year mark since the first book was published in the UK.

J.K. Rowling has had a lot of international coverage. I am her fan, but I've not even heard of Rick Riordan. I just looked his profile. It looked intriguing. I suppose an author's popularity does not determine their writing quality.

I think Rick Riordan. He has more books and the fan base is massive. J.K Rowling however, has 7 books, and the "Potterheads" are not as big in numbers as the Rick Riordan superfans. Also. Rick continues to write more and more books while J.K Rowling... doesn't. This may be biased though sorry.

This is a great question. I don't know if, I could compare the two. Granted they write in the same genre but writing styles, character building, plots and ideas are vastly different. I love the worlds they both created and I don't think I could choose between them as authors. However, as people, JK definitely has more controversy attached to her then Riordan, which may swing someone's votes to the latter.

JK Rowling thats for sure. Her success is unbelievable and to try out to be an author at an era whereby woman were not considered authors.

Hi, good question. I have to say that J.K. Rowling's books have sold better than Rick Riordan's for a reason. I won't even try to determine which author is better--that would produce very biased answers. I like Harry Potter more than the Percy Jackson series, but that's just me. Anyways, I will point out that J.K. Rowling was much more of a success commercially because it was incredibly original (one of the first times, wizards were shown in a positive light) and the movies were well done and stayed true to the novels. Percy Jackson while original, did not become a huge success in the movie theaters. When we change a book into a movie, it can either create a terrible movie or create an amazing one that only contributes to the book's success. In terms of commercial success, J.K. Rowling won.
