It is very sad when children are forced due to the circumstances to take up responsibility at a very tender age. Not having a stable childhood can affect a person later on in life.

From the excerpt, you really feel for Juan and his brothers and sisters as they grow up. Juan's ability to learn mixed with his naïveté leads him to wrong conclusions about his actions thinking that he is evil. I’m interested to know how this develops as he grows up.

It is very true that we are our experiences. I hope those events surrounding Juan's childhood did not irreparably affect his adulthood. I deeply sympathize with him.
Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen

This is really interesting because most books about criminals, cartels, etc. begin when the characters are already adults, but this book takes us right from the beginning where it all starts – childhood. I think I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the review.

This author must be a good storyteller to weave a story inspiring praises this much. Juan is an interesting character with a sad childhood. But for him to show a sense of responsibility towards his siblings shows that he still has good qualities left. Great review.

I could find no negative aspects to this novel. I would almost say it was perfect.
This makes me actually want to sample the book. The other aspects of it sound interesting and pique my curiosity, but I want to know what made you say that. Thanks for a nice review.

The job of parents is a very sensitive one and requires patience.
Juan was made vulnerable because of his mother's lifestyle.
It's quite an interesting story.
Thanks for the great review.

The Making of Evil by C. Ross Dutton is a bildungsroman showcasing the growth and development of Juan into a symbol of everything evil. Congratulations BOTD!

Thank you for the positive review and recommendation. Being a fan of psychological thrillers, I find this book refreshing as it is told from the perspective of someone like Juan. I will read the sample before deciding whether to go on and finish it.

The environment is a big part of our growth and takes centre stage in shaping our behaviour. Juan is no doubt evil because of his surrounding.I'd love to read his story; how he transitioned from an innocent child to the epitome of evil. Congrats on the BOTD.

I'm not a fan of philosophy novels, but this book is surely a must-read for me. Even though I sometimes get uncomfortable due to heavy sexual scenes contents, I would like to give this book a try despite the negative aspects I have of it. I would love to know how Juan was able to struggle through such an environment. Congratulations on the BOTD and thanks for the wonderful review.

Psychological thrillers are some of my favorite books. The evolution of someone from their youth helps me understand their motivation for acting the way they do. I wonder since he lacks proper parental guidance if he could have had an earlier intervention to prevent him from evolving into a "bad" man. Interesting review.

I think we need to be vigilant when opportunities come over to use them properly mostly to our children when someone raises up to offer education, we need to embrace that opportunity. Great review, thank you.
