I've always been a fan of alien movies, but a good horror movies that has much to do with alien/entities/beings... "The Fourth Kind". That will by far be my favorite horror movie. I love the fact that movie provides a split screen allowing you to see the actuall footage that was recorded along side the movie with the actors/actresses acting out the scene. So, not only is the movie based on true events, but it allows to get wrapped into those events with the real footage. I love the movie because of the concept that there is another world out there other than our own. Other than the world that we have known and grown up to know. I love trying to understand the world/the cosmos/the universe/ and all the metaphysical things in between.

I mean Anabelle is another spinoff of The Conjuring. I much prefer the Conjuring since the overall story and pacing was much better. Anabelle worked better as a side story, which The Conjuring balanced perfectly.

I still am a big fan of the original Paranormal Activity. Watch it alone on a dark night.

Interview with the Vampire is another favorite. It's a decent adaptation of the Anne Rice novel and has some great performances by Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and a young Kirsten Dunst.

Lake Mungo. It's a faux documentary on grief and loss, where a small-town family mourning the death by drowning of their teenage daughter at the local dam starts to believe they could be haunted, and also come across things that suggest her life wasn't exactly as it should've been. Inconclusive and an eerie ending, very unsettling with only about one 'hide behind the couch quaking' moment. It's more about the character building than anything else.

Some of it doesn't quite come off as a 'documentary' as there's things that wouldn't be shown in a genuine doco. All the same, it's a horror film that stays with me.

James Wan is an amazing horror director. Pretty much anything by him is high on my list, but Conjurings and Annabelle will always be top of that list. Just his subtle spooks and chills combined with the atmosphere he builds. I am, admittedly, usually extremely underwhelmed by most horror movies. Most go for gore and cheap jump scares, just not my cup of tea.

Scene wise, that part in Conjuring when the mom is trapped in the cellar and suddenly two hands appear beside her and clap twice - chills. Or in the second Conjuring when you catch a glimpse of the old man rocking in his chair in the living room.
