Do you think the author has given a realistic reason to make Steve change his mind from learning the law.

I think he did give the understandable reason of a young man looking to effect change, and actually taking the initiative to uphold justice. It's not as uncommon as one would think, with many youths nowadays drifting away from typical, 'safe' jobs such as lawyers and doctors, to social workers, war journalists etc. I think it's empowering to see people who want to make a difference and are actually working towards it instead of bleating avocation from the sidelines.

I do believe he made the right decision to try and make a difference, instead of just continuing with his normal life where the incident of the students that were killed would just fade into the background and not touch them at all. He knew by becoming a police officer, he would have the opportunity to affect change from the inside, instead of just protesting and moving on with his life.

It didn't make sense to me entirely why he thought it be a good idea to join the police force after just one brief interaction with sergeant Durk. Also, the way Steve took it within himself to change the police system, like he felt that was his duty or calling

He was passionate, zealous, and brimming with energy to make a positive change and he believed being a police officer would give him the opportunity. For me, that's a valid enough justification.

I think the fact that he abandoned his dream in order to fight against corruption from the inside is sufficient reason.

I do think the author provided a realistic reason that made Steve change his mind. A change wouldn’t have been achieved in the police force without Steve's brave decision to be part of it.

The author did. Steve wanted to make a change, and being a police officer would give him a better opportunity to do so. I feel his switch to law enforcement was justified.

Steve made his decisions based off own emotions and his relationship with Roxanne. They are realistic enough reasons that people do make each and every day. Was it right or wrong? Only time will tell. The decisions and relationships he will make in the future will determine that when he takes a retrospective look.

I didn't necessarily think Steve was right or wrong to change his mind about law school. I just accepted it as part of the story.

Still, I do think that yes, the author gave Steve a realistic reason for choosing the police department over going to law school. People change their minds for all kinds of reasons, even those that make no sense to anyone else. For Steve, it was that he'd been influenced by the police sergeant from New York; he wanted to make a difference in the system by getting involved.

Also, he wanted to stay close to his girlfriend Roxy.

No, I don't think so. The reason was so casual and unrealistic.

From my perspective, the reason was not legit enough. Throwing your whole planned out life to fight corruption that no one has interest in, looks somehow. What if the policing job hadn’t worked out, what would he have turn to? The reasons were not strong enough, quite convincing though.

Well, because it's true that the armed forces hold more cards than the corporate lawyers, but those cards end up being nullified by numbers. Like Steve and how he struggled to do right, he was alone and in some cases helpless.

Steve's decision to join the police force was not wise. Despite the fact that it helped him gain vital evidence to aid the FBI in their investigation, law school would have given him more opportunities to influence even greater change. That, along with the reality that without the FBI, he did nothing on his own to make the change.

To enter a system you loathe, risk your life, and attempt to alter it takes courage.
