The Belgariad and Mallorean Series by David Eddings

Post by PratMish44 »

Has anyone read the 5 books in the Belgariad and the 5 in the Mallorean by David Eddings? These are some really old books, and are absolutely fabulous.

Since when did something from the 80's become really old.
The Belgariad is pretty bad on many levels. That said I have read it 2 or 3 times. Very enjoyable. The Mallorean is an un-needed sequal. I read it once and would not recommend it.

I have read the entire series, all 12 books including Belgarath the Sorcerer & Polgara the Sorceress, several times.

I think David Eddings did a fantastic job reinventing history, the supernatural, and painting the picture of a different world quite vividly for the mind's eye. He is both a character writer, and a story writer. He has the ability to juggle quite a number of personalities without losing their identity. I thought the minor self-indulgences were just that, minor.

His other book series did not impress me. I think his creative effort reached its pinnacle with this story.

For anyone who has ever read the bible, Mr. Eddings did quite a fine job on placing his own spin on many characteristics from it as well.

Have you read The Redemption of Althalus? It was written by David Eddings and Leigh Eddings. It is a stand alone novel and in my opinion, the best thing he ever wrote. Cavet, I only read the Belgariad, about 20 years ago. Maybe I will go reread it now.

I think David Eddings did a fantastic job creating these characters. I love them all! I find myself trying to cast celebrities for the rolls in a movie. I don't think it would work, but it is good to dream. I have read the whole series several times. It is a fun and entertaining escape.
