Well, the book contains a huge fictional part but that is built on a Biblical story. I'd say it's a mix of both.

There is a balance between fiction and religion. Even if most of his content was gotten directly from the Bible, he didn't exactly follow the narrative of the Bible.

The author gave his ideas on what he thought happened in the Garden of Eden. Even when perspective was provided by the Bible, he wrote about what made more sense to him. I think it is more fictional but can easily pass as a religious book.

It is clearly stated that the book is a historical fiction book, which means it draws it's plot from a historical setting, but majority of the characters are fiction.

In my opinion, I think it was more fictional because he added many thoughts and imaginations. Ordinarily, we didnt get to see exclusive thoughts of the characters in the bible, but Micheal Tieman added so much that it felt like he was there first hand.
