I love to cook and definitely do both. If I'm making something for the first time I tend to stick to the recipe. When I feel comfortable with the recipe then I start experimenting and make it my own. I also like to make up my own recipes sometimes.

Hybrid! Sometimes I would like to stick with the recipe, especially when I am cooking for my guests. I experiment when I'm cooking for myself, because even if it doesn't turn out well, it doesn't matter much, as long as it is nutritious, I'm going to eat it anyway and there won't be a wastage of food.

When I make something for the first time, I usually stick to the recipe exactly. But after the first time, I experiment a bit.

I always experiment! I go off what I know the dish should taste like and I adjust as I go.

I experiment with cooking but not with baking. Baking has strict chemical reactions and while I might play around with substituting fruits (like I found a recipe for peach cupcakes and substituted pears) I try to stick to the ratios given. If I’m cooking I will try a new spice or throw in a new ingredient, which only sometimes works out. I’m more willing to substitute when baking rather than cooking but not all recipes are friendly for deviation.

I also do this. I want to see if I like the recipe first so I see what it is supposed be like the first time, I might even use the same one a few times then slightly tweak it over time. I feel like it is important to experiment to get to your specific tastes but it’s important to know what the starting point is.

As I've started cooking more frequently, I've relied more on my gut feeling when it comes to measurements and ratios in cooking. Besides I can always taste the food while its cooking to see if it needs any more spices.
However, for baking, recipes need to be strictly followed otherwise something always goes wrong.

I think that every meal should be unique. I'm not a fan of having to follow the recipe word for word. I come alive in the kitchen when I am allowed to just "flow". Trust me, the meal will still be lovely but with its own unique taste

Strict recipe follower until I master the recipe, then I go on to do my little tasty experiments.

I am a hybrid kind but when it comes to following a certain new or special recipe then, I prefer being a strict follower. If I had tried it a couple of times or there was no special occasion, then I would love to experiment.

i love to have a recipe to start with but i never stick to it. I will gladly take things out or add things in as I taste and cook. Sometimes i feel like there isn't enough garlic or onion and I let the voice of my ancestors tell me when enough is enough! lol

I’d say I’m both and really depends on what I’m making. While Im cooking or baking I’ll try and follow the recipe when I’m new to it but once I know what it’s supposed to taste like I’ll venture out and make it my own. I’m also big on trying to recreate a recipe with no instructions and then putting a spin to it to
Make it mine.

Strict recipe follower. I want to know why their food looked so good! I need to follow the exact recipe. There is no room for experimentation here! 😆
