First of all, I thought this book's world-building was fantastic. The author did a great job of constructing a convincing and all-encompassing dystopian civilization. The city, the technology, and the mood as a whole were vividly and engrossingly described. I had the impression that I was there, going through everything with the characters.

The main character was sympathetic and relatable. Through the course of the novel, I found myself supporting them. It was encouraging to see how determined they were to oppose the repressive government and fight for freedom. I liked how the author illustrated their personal struggles and development as they overcame different challenges.
The narrative has several unexpected turns, which kept me interested from start to finish. There were exciting parts, action sequences, and even some touching bits that made me feel things. The mix between aggressive and calm, contemplative intervals in the pace was excellent.
The underlying topics covered in the novel were one component that particularly caught my attention. It discussed subjects including governmental monitoring, control, and the influence of personal agency. These topics got me thinking about the value of challenging authority and standing up for what is right in our own society.
Nevertheless, there were a few areas where it might have been done better. Some of the supporting characters felt underdeveloped and lacked substance. I would have preferred to see more surprises along the road, and a couple story lines felt a little obvious.
Overall, reading "Praesidium" was interesting and stimulating. It was simple to be swept up in the narrative thanks to McKinley Aspen's vivid and engaging writing style. I certainly suggest giving this book a try if you like dystopian literature with great characters and an engaging narrative.
