Kernimay E. Fenelon wrote this poetry collection, "Brighter Days Ahead." As someone who was recently diagnosed with scrupulosity, a type of OCD, she found this to be the best way to express herself. This book reflects her strong Christian faith, as she uses it to demonstrate her relationship with the higher power she believes in. "Brighter Days Ahead" is a heartfelt expression of the feelings of this young Christian woman.

I liked how this book began with a brief biography of the author. As a result, the emotions expressed through the words were to be expected. Through poems like “heart surgery” and “with all my flaws”, Fenelon related her emotions, and she did it well. The poems were kept interesting by using relatable themes and subtle rhymes that drew the reader in. Each poem had a main theme that was appropriately titled, with one line building on the next. This deft use of literature was an important part of this book, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

For me, the best aspect of this book was the use of various examples to convey the same idea. This allowed the author to share with the readers how it felt to suffer from an illness while allowing God to take total control. It was done in a very simple way, and I found it to be the result of both creativity and critical research. She even included sections on acrostics and freestyles, which added to the book's eclectic style. With all of this, it is safe to say that this author possesses a talent for poetry, which is evident in this book.

While there were many rhymes in this book, I found some that did not quite fit. Some of those one-liners seemed to me to be there only for the sake of rhyming, and they seemed only tangentially related to the main theme. Thankfully, these stray one-liners were sparse and did not disrupt the flow of the poem's narrative. I also discovered some errors and numerous instances of inconsistent spacing between verses. I believe this book would benefit from another round of editing.

“Brighter Days Ahead” was fun to read and adequately portrayed the author’s emotions, showing her faith in God and highlighting her battle with OCD. Only the aforementioned flaws keep this book from receiving a perfect score, earning it 4 out of 5 stars. This book would be very relatable to Christians who enjoy poetry.
