Ok,im a high school junior and I need a novel to read.It must have been written in the past 10 years. Here are a few books I loved.
-Catcher in the Rye
-Twilight Series (Yes...im a fan)
-The Great Gatsby (easily my favorite)
-At the Edge of the City
-Good People

-I like a good classical mafia type genre (must be within past 10 years,so no Godfather)
-But I also like a Very psychological book, like The Catcher in the Rye.
-Stephen King is a no no
-Doesnt need to be "child friendly",I can handle randy stuff.

[Moderation Note: Thread moved to general section because new threads in the "Reviews, Recommendations and Warnings" section must be limited to one book or series per thread. All others must be posted in the sticky thread for that genre or in a different section. Please see the new forum rules for the recommendations section. Thank you. -Scott]

Seeing the Wires by Patrick Thompson isn't, as far as I know, very well known, but I thought it was a cracking read. It's got a great twist in the middle (or near the end, possibly). Not sure if it fits into all your criteria, but it's fairly contemporary and there's a few interesting psychological elements.

Maybe you should try something completely new, for example Murakami or classic books by Tolstoj?

I am currently engrossed in Little Bee. Little Bee is a story both sad and hopeful, horrific and funny. It's told in the voices of two women: Little Bee, a 16-year old from Nigeria who, after two years, finds herself "unofficially" discharged from an immigration detention center in southern England; and Sarah O'Rourke, magazine editor, mother, reporter's wife. Among Little Bee's few belongings are Andrew O'Rourke's driver's license and business card. Not knowing anyone in the UK, she decides to head for the address on the driver's license. And thus begins a journey for both women

I can't wait to get back to it...

I especially loved "A thousand Splendid Suns" and really enjoyed "Confessions of a Shopaholic". "Suns" was an engrossing story and "Shopaholic" I just found fun.

Would you like Little Brother by Cory Doctorow?A fascinating book for readers of any age. A great sample of a “Young Adult” book that adults can comprehensively enjoy. It Furthermore, serves as a great candidate to get teens hooked on science fiction. Adults will like it for the thought-provoking topical issues and the insight into the minds of today’s tech-savvy youth. The youth vs. adults aspect is sure to attract teen readers, who will love the book for its defiant themes. Hackers and teaches will love it for the frequent applications of technologies and views at where they might be headed. SF fans (and conspiracy theorists) will love it for the extrapolation of receding civil liberties and privacy issues. In short, this is a book with extensive appeal, regardless of age and background. I would also offer this book as a great candidate to get teens hooked on science fiction.

Have you ever read any Ray Bradbury or Kurt Vonnegut? I'd suggest Fahrenheit 451 (a classic), The Cat's Pajamas (a collection of short stories), or The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury or Slaughterhouse 5 (another classic) or Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut. They're two of my favorite authors and I think you'd enjoy them. Hope that helps!
