A Midsummer's Night's Dream.
I am currently reading and watching Hamlet, but I don't really like it. Partly because of the actors. Thought the Romeo and Juliet was overrated, though that's mainly because I thought that the characters were too weak and too ruled by their emotions.

I am a late comer to the love of Shakespeare and I realize I have a lot to learn. I recently saw a National Theater Live broadcast of the play Coriolanus performed by Tom Hiddleston. I have to agree with what he once said in an interview to paraphrase - he has to have compassion for his characters and Shakespeare has such meaty material that is no less true now than when he wrote it...whether you are playing Iago or Romeo.

I want to actually read Coriolanus as well as Twelfth Night....as well as some of the other lesser known works. Any suggestions???

Would have to be Hamlrt. The thought and power that the play has over people still to this day is an amazing thing

Thank you for the suggestion. I vaguely remember reading that in high school, but I am up for a refresher.

Tough call between Hamlet and MacBeth for me...but I'd have to give the edge to MacBeth.

I did enjoy Taming of the Shrew. Probably my favorite is Hamlet, although all the ones I have read I have enjoyed.

Hamlet, without question. I incidentally majored in English lit (my thesis was on parallel imagery in James Joyce's "Ulysses").

I've read Hamlet and made a lifetime study of the play. I've written several essays on the play, such as "Hamlet versus Laertes: A Contrast" and "Hamlet's and Claudius' Misuse of Loyal Friends", and so on.

I absolutely hate, hate the much-adored Olivier film version (I've written reviews of that), plus I adore the marvelous full length Branagh version.

Yeah, I like Hamlet.

"Titus Andronicus", hands down. It has the most emotional and psychological turmoil, the most gore and shock factor and, in my opinion, is the most tragic out of all of his plays.

If you haven't seen the movie "Titus" with Anthony Hopkins in it, I highly recommend it. One of my all times favs. Anthony Hopkins makes me swoon!

I have read nothing by Shakespeare since high school, although I still remember from Macbeth "is this a dagger I see before me, the handle toward my hand, come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not and yet I see thee still." Maybe what I typed is precise. I'd like to think it is.

My favorite play by Shakespeare has to be Romeo and Juliet, because they never give up on their love, even though it is forbidden. They give hope to people who think that they may never find love.

It is a toss up between King Lear and Hamlet.
