What's the most problematic classical novel you read that would be thrashed if it was published today?

One of the most problematic classic novels i read is "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain, due to its frequent use of racial slurs and portrayal of racial stereotypes, which can be deeply offensive and troubling for modern readers. Despite its critique of slavery and exploration of themes like friendship and freedom, its language and depictions of race continue to spark controversy and debate.

One of the classics that sparks debate is The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. While it is praised for capturing teenage rebellion and confusion, it is also criticized for its use of profanity and its portrayal of mental health, leading to discussions about its impact and relevance.

Undeniably 120 days of sodom. I got less than 15 pages in before stopping. I genuinely cant picture anyone EVER managing to finish even 1/4 of that book. It was sickening and unfortunately made me reconsider my stance on censorship for that one novel...

I'm afraid to ask but your comment made me think of that one movie I began watching because I like Momoa & it was about cannibalism. COULD NOT FINISH.

Hello everyone :) , I've read about certain books subjected to trying to get banned due to controversy, one of them being "To Kill a Mockingbird" By: Harper Lee. I also agree with The Huckleberry Finn and 120 days of Sodom. I have also had challenges with "Great Expectations".

I find Jane Eyre problematic. I am not sure what, but something feels very off to me about it. The hidden wife, jumping from the roof, the age difference, it all confuses me.
