Congrats on BOTD!
Being an adult can be difficult. Add that to being taken advantage of and sensitively ignored. Everyone would want to read this well-written novel because of the small-town atmosphere, Calvin's battle with ADHD, and his friendships in the face of widespread prejudice.

Your review of the novel opens up the possibilities to reach a larger audience. It would be a rare thing to find a reader that cannot relate to some portion of Calvin's experiences. Homophobia, ADHD, racism, violence, loneliness, nostalgia, a feeling of not fitting in, being part of a broken home; any one of these experiences can be found in nearly every human on the planet. Highlighting these experiences in your review can engage a reader who might otherwise not be interested in a novel centered around a child. Issues such as homophobia and racism seen through the mindset of a child can also cause us, as adults, to re-think our own biases as well.

Congratulations to the BOTD author! I haven't read the entire book yet, but from the review, I can relate to Calvin's situation. Blending that with tragedy, I have no doubt the book is worth it!

This book sounds engrossing. I enjoy books that go back in history, allowing us to compare the social standards of then to those of today. The 1960s and 1970s were tumultuous decades. I, too, was a child then.
I look forward to reading this novel and just purchased it for my Kindle! :tiphat:

Calvin's stepmother treated him badly and that must have been difficult for him. Kids in a traumatic home situation often have imaginary friends and it also makes sense that Calvin made friends with other outcasts in the town, since he struggled to make friends at school. Homophobia and racial discrimination were more common during the 60s and 70s and it must've been difficult for anybody who was different. Thank you for your review.

I appreciate most while reading the book is how the book explores issues of the period like racism, homophobia, and prejudice through Calvin's experiences and relationships.

Bellamy by G. Bradley Davis seems really interesting as lonely boy who suffers from ADHD makes his imaginary friend to have his safe space. The child who suffers from such needs love, affection and specially safe environment. Really nice review. Congratulations on BOTD!

Calvin is an outcast in his family; his stepmother constantly reminds him that he will never live up to expectations. This book focuses on family crises and triumphs. I recommend it. Congratulations on BOTD!

I liked your review, Laney. Sampling, I gleaned that the story involved a murder and Cal's self-exile with his dog Blake in a remote area. I have yet to meet Cal's childhood friend Bellamy you mention in the review. This book feels like an intriguing read.

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Davis's ability to immerse readers in Calvin's world. The portrayal of Calvin's struggles with ADHD is particularly poignant and offers a genuine representation of the frustrations faced by individuals with the condition.

After reading the review and sample, the book seems engaging. However, it also addresses some important issues which were prevalent at the time of the story. I want to read the book to know how Calvin faced his demons.

Your acknowledgment of the author's skill in drawing readers into Calvin's viewpoint—specifically, his battles with ADHD and the ensuing annoyance and misconceptions—highlights the book's rich character development. Congrats on BOTD.

I really hope that Calvin's weakness and disorder was not taken for laziness, cos I know how it feels. Plotted in the 60s, I really want to know what the book's content is about. Nice review. Congratulations on winning BOTD.

"Bellamy" by G. Bradley Davis follows Calvin growing up in the 60's in a small town. Relations in Calvin's family are not harmonious, and he feels unwelcome in his group of friends. That's why Calvin came up with the imaginary friend Bellamy.
