"Swimming in a Sea of Stars" is an incredible book written by Julie Wright that should be read by parents who want to always be in touch with their children. Suicide prevention is so important since everyone has a purpose in life and to end one's life as a teen is so painful to parents and friends of the person that commits suicide.

How does a book that is not available until August 1, 2023 earn the Book of the Month award?

What I really like about the author is how she put in the effort to understand and depict the struggles of teenagers in a genuine way. She didn't just rely on her own experiences but actually talked to real teens and did research to make sure she got it right. That shows a lot of dedication and empathy. I'm only a few chapters in but I'm even more excited to unpack this book now!

“But as far as emotions and fears and worries and hopes and the need to belong—those things are universal regardless of age.”

That statement is very true. Everyone needs to feel like their life adds value and that they are seen. I always hold my breath when I read a news article about a young, vibrant person dying and no cause is immediately given. My heart sinks, and I immediately think that suicide is the reason. It’s going to be hard to wait a month before this book drops into my Kindle library, but I am looking forward to meeting these teens. I wonder which one I will connect with most.

Thanks to the interviewer and the author for this excellent exchange!
