Review of Stones of Wrath
Stones of Wrath by SJ Ratcliffe is a Christian historical novel that combines history, war, and faith in one fantastic package. The book focuses on an ancient Christian artifact hidden away to protect it from harm. However, some very ambitious evildoers seek the artifact to use it in their quest for destruction. A fight begins to ensure that the 'Stones of Wrath' do not fall into the wrong hands. The characters in the novel are intertwined in an intricate web, each serving a purpose higher than anything they could've ever imagined.
The story occurs during World War 1, and it was intriguing reading about what life was like for people back then. I could empathize with the myriad of emotions faced by the people, from their sorrow and anxiety to the unwavering faith of the Jenkins family. I felt the most for little Deborah and the many challenges she had faced in her short life. In the end, I was immensely pleased that she got a happy ending with her kitten.
Also, the mystery of the location of the artifact was well thought out. It was exciting to see where next Mikkel's investigations would take him. A major theme in the book is Christianity, but it is woven into the story wonderfully. It served as an anchor for the Jenkins clan and was a source of comfort to the Sheffield community. The author also did a good job in their portrayal of the war and the lasting effects it left on its victims.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 because of all the reasons listed above. Overall, the book was an educational and interesting read. I noticed only one error in this book, which showed it was professionally edited. I'd recommend this novel to anyone who loves historical fiction and wouldn't mind the appearance of an angel or two.
