Explore how modern technology can be both a resource for progress for the world and a means for destruction.

I only read the sample, but I'm going to get the book. I'm interested in the ending. The sheikh didn't think there was anyone in LA that knew about the polonium. He thought it would take a couple of days before anyone noticed, but he was wrong. I also want to know what role the sock plays, if any, in the discovery of the poison. Did I mention the short chapters?

The first few chapters were so exciting that I cannot wait to read more.
The writer has expertly placed the reader in a state of suspense and anticipation of what may ensue.

This review is thorough and engaging, offering an insightful summary of Waterworks while highlighting its strengths, such as the fast-paced plot, attention to detail, and realistic espionage elements. The critique regarding Lara’s quick access to sensitive information adds a fair, balanced perspective. Overall, it’s an excellent recommendation for fans of spy thrillers.

“Waterworks” by Jack Winnick is a fictional story about a terrorist attack on the Los Angeles water supply. Teams of terrorists that were members of an Iranian anti-American group added Polonium to the water supply by dropping it in the water from bridges in socks that they used to bring the poison into the U.S. Lara and Uri were already in Los Angeles on vacation so they were deployed to track down the terrorists and then they were given new identities so that they could be sent to different parts of Iran to gather intelligence and find the terrorist leader in Iran. This is an action thriller that I did not want to put down until the last page. This book is Jack Winnick’s 5th book in this series and all of his books are thoroughly researched, well-written and have kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. I highly recommend this book.

Very thoughtful and thorough review… it seems more a summarization but still enjoyable.

Your review is as fearless as the book itself and it makes me really want to ask this: did you co-author this book with Jack?

Anyway, I had always loved spy stories only on TVs, not particularly reading it from a book. But this review on this book makes me wanna try reading instead. And I'd start it with this book.
Congrats BOTD!

I am a great fan of these types of novels and really enjoyed the review. As noted, when there are too many details, a reader can be lost in the weeds. I am happy that this novel is not that and definitely be checking it out.

The threat to the LA water supply felt incredibly real and terrifying. I was completely invested in Lara and Uri's mission to stop the terrorists and save countless lives. Talk about pressure!

This book stands out for its detailed and realistic portrayal of counterintelligence operations, weaving technical and political knowledge seamlessly into a gripping thriller. Winnick’s expertise as a professor emeritus in chemical engineering adds a layer of credibility to the story, particularly in the way he handles complex details around technology and international espionage. Nice review.

A worker found a dead fish in the Los Angeles water filtration system. He found several dead birds around it. The water is contaminated with polonium. A sock in the water points suspicion towards Iranian terrorists. Agents Lara and Uri are sent to Iran to catch the culprits. The spy novel is fast-paced and interesting.
