Good Fantasy?

I would also recommend George RR Martin's Ice and Fire series with the caveat that the series is not finished yet, and its been quite a few years since the last book was released. Many fans, myself included, fear that George is going to pull a Robert Jordan. The the series was going to be a trilogy, then four, then the fourth book was split into two books with second half supposed to be released shortly after the forth. (Book four released in 2005 and no sign of book 5 yet). The series is now supposed to be 7 books long. You can see why fans are concerned about the series ever actually being finished.

I have finished the 3rd book, and the series is awesome. Probably the best fantasy I ever read. But I'm going to wait there till the series is finished.

I feel exactly the same way. I have also read through three of the books, but I'm waiting to read the fourth until the fifth hits the shelves. I really hope Martin finishes the books. It really is one of the best fantasy series I've ever read.

To each his own I guess. I still thought they were fun. To me, not everything has to be some deep, complicated book. Maybe that makes me a Simple Jack, but I don't really care.

Pamela Dean's Secret Country trilogy, and The Dubious Hills, which is set in the same world.

There's a shared-world series of anthologies, starting with Liavek, edited by Will Shetterly and Emma Bull, if I recall. I like those too.

I love The World of Tiers by Philip Jose Farmer. It's a series about a portal into a multi-level universe. Each level is different (and beautiful in their own ways). It's Farmer's most famous series and it was written over almost 30 years starting in 1965. Good stuff!
