Review of Double Entendre
Double Entendre follows twin sisters Julie and Jillian as they build their renovation business and take it worldwide. Of course, things are not easy. Julie has an abusive husband and is afraid of making him angry. Meanwhile, Jillian will do almost anything to ensure their business’ success and her sister’s safety. After landing a deal at a medical institution in Mexico, the sisters hope this will be a big break for them. Unfortunately, the head of the institution is not the most honorable, but Jillian comes up with a brilliant plan to take care of all their problems while still excelling at the job.
The story was captivating overall and kept me reading. In addition to the main plot, many side plots are added to the story. The author did a great job keeping the main story flowing while adding to the side stories. These stories helped to develop the characters and see the events from various perspectives, which made the story more enjoyable. I loved the sisters as the protagonists and their relationship was enjoyable to read. My only issue with the characters was how the author portrays one sister so much weaker than the other when she was a victim of circumstance.
Though I enjoyed the plot, the writing was sometimes hard to follow. The chapters were from various characters’ perspectives and sometimes the book jumped around too much. I also felt that some events could have been cut from the book and the story would not have been affected. This would have made the book flow better and easier to read.
I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I took off one star because the book was not professionally edited. Additionally, there were some very violent and vulgar scenes that seemed unnecessary as part of the plot, including sexual assault and bestiality. I think the author could have gotten the point across about characters being evil without having to include the additional disturbing scenes.
I would recommend this book to adults who like thrillers but are not bothered by sadistic and disturbing scenes in writing.
