writing style

Post by shubh »

I am freelance content writer. I think I should write to give the information to the readers, while my clients want me to write to convince the customers to buy their products. This disturbs my natural writing style. Any suggestion?

Try to strike a balance between both objectives. Since you are getting paid for it and have an obligation to fulfill your customer’s request to promote a product, there’s nothing much you can do about it but you can always control your sales pitch. At the same, try to write naturally as what you always do.

That's an eternal struggle between money and soul. It's hard to find balance or choose something of them. But still, I think you should think of your priorities and then you'll find an answer

You could try melding the two approaches. I know that copywriters use stories as one of their most effective and powerful approaches... If you tell a story, people will actually read your sales pitch rather than flying through it... One of the most famous ads of all time was a story about a guy who everyone made fun of until he sat down to play the piano. Then, everyone realized they were in the midst of greatness. Sounds corny, but the ad is hailed as an example of blending writing and results.

Also, I used to work in journalism and one of my editors always told me I had to make a distinction between two types of stories: the type you care about, and the type you have to produce to "feed the beast." Feeding the beast means you've just got to crank out some stuff you don't really care about to focus on the things you really do care about. It's kind of liberating when you approach tiny, insignificant stories with a blase mindset. You're free to apply your creativity when you're done.

Even i have faced this trouble many a times. Give the facts with little added colours and flavours.

At work of course you should follow your clients' desires and requirements just because they pay you money, but in your free time you can develop your writing style in any possible way, even by rewrting your clients information :D
