Good Books About Writing

Post by DickDatchery »

Just wondering whether you know of any excellent books about the craft of writing? I can think of a few. Chekhov's letters contained fine advice for writers from the perspective of one preeminent in play and short story writing. John Gardner wrote two good books, The Art of Fiction and Becoming a Novelist, filled with common sense and practical guidance. I've started reading Janet Burroway's Writing Fiction, which seems very good so far, especially on writer's block. And Anne Lamott's Bird By Bird was funny, practical, and wise.

Which books about writing have you found to be exceptional?
