I have all the Jane Austen books in my list but before I start reading them I'd like to know which book I should start with first.

Pride and Prejudice is very good but I also really love Emma.
And if you haven't seen the movies yet, I was really pleased with them.

Pride and Prejudice was the first one I read, but I also really enjoyed Northanger Abbey. Also, if you're going to watch the Pride and Prejudice movie, the one to watch is the A&E version because they didn't cut much out, and the acting is fabulous.

I would avoid reading Sense and Sensibility straight after Pride and Prejudice, since the stories are so similar.

As with all, I recommend Pride and Prejudice. I also recommend watching the "Lost in Austen" movie directly afterward - truly a fun interpretation!

Emma is a far more subtle and gentle book, with a nice plot. (Yes, I know my teacher said never to use the word "nice", but everything about Jane Austen is nice, in the nicest sense.)

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books. It's perfect and it depicts the character relations in the book. The film is cool. I liked Colin Firth best. :D

Yea, it seems to be one of the few good Austen offshoots! I have been weeding through the major spin-offs (P&P&zombies (4/5), S&S&seamosters(3/5), Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict(2/5), Jane Austen ruined my life(4.5/5)) but they seem to miss some of the point...

Especially Confessions... it was as if Lydia wrote a book with no subtlety or plot resolution. I do NOT recommend ^_^.

This sounds interesting - if only I knew what you were talking about. What are they, and where do I find them?

I don't know if there is something I missed about Pride & Prejudice as i absolutely hated it, i found the love between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy unrealistic and idealised as well as the story really boring. I am actually interested however to know what other people love about it please let me know what i missed. x

If stories were completely "true to life" they would be rather long-winded and boring.

So Jane Austen exaggerated matters for effect? Most people found it a nice effect.
