Things I wish people wouldn't say

'Cheer up, it may never happen'. In the first place, how does the person saying it know that something awful hasn't happened, and that it's very insensitive, and in the second place, do we really need to wander round with a cheesy grin to prove we're not grumps??
'Worse things happen at sea'. This is undeniably true, but if the point of reference in my life is to be the Titanic, then that doesn't bode well...!!
'Any room for a little one'? I should stress that I'm a large lady myself, so I'm not being fat-ist, but why is it that people who say it never ARE little ones?
'Nothing embarrasses us'. This one is specific to doctors especially ones writing in magazines. No disrespect, but if you want to poke around in my private parts it's not YOUR embarrassment that bothers me!
Well, that's enough for now. Any other pet hates?

1. No one is always happy (unless smoking the ynw)
2. Its my face and I'll do with it what I want.
3. If I'm angry for some reason, and you're asking me, why are you angry, then I get more angry.
So, please Happy Person, don't do the Joker thing with me.

I am a migraine sufferer as well and being told "It's just a headache, pop a couple of aspirin and it will go away" makes me murderous. Um, no. It is not just a headache and trust me - a couple of aspirin will not begin to touch the anguish that a migraine can cause.beth9900 wrote:I suffer from severe migraines and I happy being told "Smile, it will make you feel better.". Uh no not really. I really want to be laying in a dark room but I am forcing myself to be nice and spend time with you. If I am frowning leave me along.

When I was in middle school, I was walking home past a construction site, and one of the workers said to me, "You look like you haven't smiled in a week." GRRRR. I have that exact same pet peeve! And you know what REALLY bums me out? Is when I feel perfectly fine, maybe I'm thinking about something or whatever, and someone says it. "What's wrong? You look so gloomy." And it's like, no, I feel fine. Or I DID, until you asked me that!!Leon Durham wrote:Remember the Joker Question? "Why So Serious?" i HATE it when some happy-always-smiling person to stop looking so serious!

I was at the doctor's office once, in the waiting room. And I ran into my late grandmother's neighbors. The wife said to me, "What are you in to see the doctor for?" And I was like, REALLY? To this day, I wish I'd said, "I have the flesh-eating virus," and then sat down next to her. Oh well.

Geez, I've never had a migraine, but I'd never be so insensitive as to call it a "headache." I'm miserable with a headache, so I can't imagine having a migraine--must be just awful! It's just so darned dismissive to be like, "Take a pill, you whiner." GRRRR.

You know what I really hate? Is when people say, "Take care." I get it in context, such as, "Take care of my baby," or that sort of thing. But just "take care," is laced with the implied message that something's wrong with you. Fine if you're comforting someone at a funeral. "Take care of yourself." Not so fine if it's a casual interaction. "Bye." "Bye. Take care." And then that meaningful look, like, "I see inside your very soul and you're profoundly miserable, and you need to be happy again." So darned condescending.

Another one is "Thanks!"
"No problem."
No, no, you're supposed to say, "You're welcome!"
"No problem" sounds like you're belittling the work you did for someone in a pathetic attempt at humility.
"thanks!"
"Oh, it was nothing, really." And you just brought in several armfulls of firewood. Fake modesty!
"Thanks!"
"You're welcome!"

"Hang in there."
I hate that expression. I'd get so upset by it as a teen, many years ago. Like, "hang in there" was the solution to my toxic living environment and my emotional disequilibrium. I finally got so POed by it that I'd reply, "I am hanging... myself, later on tonight."
They said, "That's genuinely not funny."
And I'd say, "Then quit telling me to hang in there."

I'm storing that last one for later

What is grief, if not love persevering?
