Fifty shades does have a good story line you just have to look beyond the sex parts.

Has anybody read Grey yet?

I'm almost done with it and I can say that I hope this is the end of it. I have maybe 200 pages to go in a very long book and we're still in the first week of Christian and Ana's relationship. She's just now headed to Georgia.

I thought with the length of this book (600+ pages as far, as the reader goes) that this would dig down into Christian's psyche for all three of the books. It doesn't appear that this is happening. I'm also discovering that I'm lacking sympathy for him although I had it in the 50 Shades series. And Ana...well, she's Ana. Smart in books. Dumb in life.

If more books come out, I don't know if I will read them. I think this was a ploy by James to get more money for writing and frankly, it's like beating a dead horse. I'm sure many people asked for it but I find it to be dragging in parts.

Usually if I tackle a book this big, I can have it done in just two or three days at the most. I've been at this one for over a week.

I think maybe she should have left Christian Grey an enigma.

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

I actually like the story line behind the sex scenes. The sex scenes become a little repetitive so I tend to skip over those parts and just read the rest. It actually is a nice romantic story. I think it has been so famous and talked about because there isn't many books like this and I think people are a little curious about it and shy to talk about it. E L James has now written about it which has made everyone infatuated with it. Although now I think the obsession has died down. I am now currently reading the second book Fifty Shades Darker which is better. Less focus on sex and more on the actual characters.

I loved Fifty shades of grey. I have hear slot of negative comments about it being a type of porn. I do not agree with that. Yes, the book is very graphic. If you are reading the book for the sex parts then I can see that labeling it porn. I read all 3 books including the newest one called grey. I loved the characters because it's about a man who was broken. He was introduced to sex a very raw way. This girl he meets makes him feel love in a new weird way that he has never experienced. He realizes that he loves her. Not in just a sexual way. He actually cares for her and it's so weird and unknown to him. If you look past the sex part and just look at how they need each other in there own way. The books are amazing!

I gave Grey 2/5 stars because the book was overlong and didn't tell me anything new.

I understood from reading the Fifty Shades trilogy that Christian was messed up and I understood why. It was intriguing getting into his dreams and stuff but what I wanted to know was how Elena got her claws into this young fifteen-year-old kid. Did she force him? Was she angry with him when she first turned him into a sub? I think the real story lies there. And considering what he'd witnessed his mother go through and his own abuse, why did he think it was still acceptable for that sort of behavior as an adult?

I felt some empathy for Christian while I was reading the Fifty Shades. Now, I don't so much. The thoughts he had about what he wanted to do to Ana--and get pleasure from it--led me to believe he really is the monster he thought he was.

I think Ms. James should have let him remain the enigma that he was.

Not just about sex. If you're not too timid I'd just read it. If you're an 80 year old nun, maybe take those heart pills first.

I agree but the sex had a lot to do with it. But like you said, it isn't just about that. It is a story about endurance, forgiveness and even love. It isn't a romance but it is a love story.

To me the rumors that the series was about BDSM was a false impression because that is not what the series was about at all. The series was a love story about a young college graduate who is still a virgin falling for a very well known wealthy bachelor who had chosen a lifestyle which she couldn't even begin to fathom the possibilities of because of her sexual innocence. The new book from Christian's perspective has been released and was an excellent tie in to the already steamy series but E. L. James did a wonderful job, in my opinion, of providing enough about Christian in the original trilogy for myself to see that he had strong feelings for Anastasia long before he realizes it. It is not a hearts and flowers love story; it is a love story of struggle and of overcoming the differences between two people with some very steamy sex scenes. If you haven't read it, read it!!

The writing of this book is awful. With that being said, I HATED the main character - Anastasia. If she started crying one more time about her billionaire boyfriend then I thought I was going to rip the book to shreds. I like books with a strong female lead who won't take BS from anyone.. Not one who will cry in the corner until he comes to save her. The sex scenes were good at first and then became the same thing over and over again. This is just another erotica book with the same story line as the rest: Naïve girl falls in love with a billionaire who she wants to fix and there's some crazy ex involved somewhere along the way.

RT I enjoyed these books. I did find the first one to take a while to get into... The elevator sceen is when my interest was finally perked. It's not for everyone but someone else's opinion shouldn't deter a person who is curious about it.

Without reading through all 31 pages of what people have written, I want to add my two cents on what this book is about. I think it got all of its hype from the inside view of dominance/submission/bondage/etc. However, in my opinion that is NOT what this series is about! The biggest reason I was pulled into the series was the mystery surrounding the character of Christian Grey. I wanted to know what this big secret was that he kept hidden and what made him act the way he did. I loved watching the relationship between Ana and Christian grow as each of them changed throughout the series. Listening to people talk about Fifty Shades of Grey it sounds like it is all about the Red Room and unconventional sex, but in reading it there is really very little of that. It is a lifestyle that Ana doesn't like and one that Christian learns he doesn't need. Everyone needs a little spice in their life (like ben wei balls, ties, etc.), but this series does not promote a dominate/submissive living like some people seem to believe. I loved this book for the story line and nothing more. The second time I read it I pretty much skipped over the erotic parts. ;-)

The book isn't solely based on sex. It's about a wealthy man who had a bad childhood and was abused. He was introduced to sex by a much older woman who had different ideas of pleasure. When he meets a new girl she starts to uncover his past and tries to help him. I personally think it's a little too erotic for my taste but the book in my opinion was well thought out.

The background story to the series is interesting and deals with why people act certain ways in relationships. I enjoyed that aspect more than any other part of the story, including the sex scenes.

I honestly loved these books. The movie was a complete let down though, they left out so much! The books are very visual and erotic and if you have a good imagination you can almost picture everything as if it were happening right in front of you. If you aren't into sex and vulgar language then this series definitely isn't for you, but I love em all!

Hi Everyone I am new to this site as well, but since some have u have been asking about Fifty Shades of Grey Series. I think it's an excellant book. Most people when they hear this series thinks it's all about the sex. Yes, it has a lot of sex in it, but it is deeper than just the sex. It opens up to dominants and submissives, but it's not just about that it goes deeper than that. The main characters Christian Grey and Anastaisa Steele are two separate types of people. Christian had a rough upbringing and his character goes deeper. There is a reason why he gets into the dominant and submissive relationships and it goes deep and he seems so cold, but he had it rough. Anastaisa is the opposite she is not experienced in sex at all. She changes Christian throughout the series. I really enjoy the series. Now the author just came out with Christian version of the first book and it was wonderful to see his side and how much Anastaisa changed him for the better you just have to read it.
