Robert B. Parker. No question. The Spenser series never gets old to me. I've re-read the alll multiple times. It's like sitting down with an old friend. I love how in the other series he's done that he's mixed/matched characters between them. I also like the westerns he's written as well. When Mr. Parker passed away at the beginning of the year it left a hole that can never be filled.

Dostoesky's "The Idiot" and Dickens' "Great Expectations" at the top.
and Proust's "The Captive" not far behind.
But Shakespeare for his absolute mastery and astounding artistry!!

Hi everyone,
there're really many writers whose books are worth reading. Among my favourite ones are Thomas Hardy and Somerset Maugham. After reading T. Hardy "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" I understood how really deep a book can be. The main character is depicted in such a masterful way that you feel so much sympathy to her. If I was asked to recommend something to read, I would name this book without any hesitation. Maugham is a wonderful writer too in my opinion. Take his "The Razor's Edge" for example. What I like about his books most of all that there's never good or bad, no distinct border between good and evil, as well as our life can't be only black and white, its spectrum is much richer.

Hmmm, that's a hard one.

Juliet Marillier; I found her books 5 years ago and fell in love. She mixes historical fiction with romance, and all of her books are amazing! She has 4 series up until now, I think.. and I've loved every single one of them!

C.S. Lewis; I just love the way he writes.

Nicholas Sparks; he might be considered cheesy and corny, but I love his books, and he's a really nice guy, too.

I love Dosteovsky's The Devils (The Idiot is on my TBR list) and Great Expectations was pretty good but I found Bleak House by Dickens to be better.

Stephenie Meyer, Dan Brown and Sidney Sheldon for their novels are all amazing and artistically done.

So hard to choose a favorite, but right this second, Christopher Moore is on the top of my list. For Lamb and A Dirty Job, nothing beats his fantasitcal storylines suffused with laugh out loud moments.

My all-time favourite book is the Shadow of the Gallows, a book from the Horrible Histories Gory Stories series. It's a 2008 children's book by Terry Deary. I refused to eat dinner reading it. :)

I read few modern novels, mostly Archer, especially Shall We Tell The President, which was great. Another author is Amy Tan. I liked The Hundred Secret Senses, even more than Saving Fish From Drowning. Jennifer Lee Carrell's The Shakespeare Secret and The Shakespeare Curse are also wonderful.

I've been reading Tender Is The Night, which is a good novel, if it wasn't so sad. I feel especially bad for Lanier. I've read the Curious Case of Benjamin Button but I thought it's OK, not good but not bad either. My favourite classic is Charles Dicken's Great Expectations.

I cannot get into Dickens myself, Kayau, he is too Victorian. I personally like Nietzsche.
