Know any Inception-type books?

I just saw the movie Inception and was pretty floored by it. My first thought once it was over was "I hope that screenwriter has some books out, because I want to spend more time inside a mind like that". Unfortunately it was written by the director, Christopher Nolan, so that's not going to happen. I would really love to find a good book (or 2 or 3) with a similar style, though. The book should be thought-provoking, complex, heavily psychological, and preferably contain a fair amount of action. To put it in book terms, maybe a cross between Crime and Punishment and a science fiction thriller.

Any thoughts?

Please check out the film Memento. There is a short story Memento Mori as well, written by Jonathan Nolan, yes, the borther to Christopher Nolan who directed both Memento and Inception.

I would love to know if there are any more Inception-type books too. I'm going to check out those suggestions! I also recommend Memento if you enjoyed Inception...very thought-provoking.

I can definitely recommend "The Art of Dreaming" by Carlos Castaneda.
If you read the art of dreaming you'll discover that inception is only the first gate of dreaming. Castaneda writes about seven gates of dreaming.

By the way, from my own experience, the art of dreaming is no fiction!

I have not seen the entire movie, but i think 'The Day Time Was Hacked' by Carel Mackenbach will be sometinhg for you.

It's a real page turner and an amazing science-fiction thriller. Maybe not so psychological as Inception, but it comes quite close I think.

Cities of the Red Night by William S. Burroughs - it is about delirium from what I can understand of the book, therefore if you like your dreams fevered, this is the book for you.

Yes, Momento was very interesting. I saw Inception fairly recently and it was such a good movie, even though I was a little lost in the beginning. If I had written that screenplay, would've had to create a map of everything. How the writer stayed on track with the events is beyond me Very creative indeed

I absolutely loved that movie as well, but unfortunately I don't know of any books like it. I would also love to know if anyone can think of books similar to this.

I remember reading a book when I was a teenager called 'The Hermit' by Lobsang Rampa. This book must have made quite an impression on me. I love films like Inception they kind of give you this feeling that ' there is more to life' I have heard of Carlos Castenardo ( in my teenage years! ) I did not read his books but am now keen to read 'The art of dreaming' I read 'The castle' by Kafka recently. My reading is all over the place! Iam not educated but I have this thirst for learning and would love for somebody to sugest a good book to me. Thankyou for reading this.
