This is the most excited that I have been about a book in a long time. When I first read the blurb for, The Big Exoneration by Dennis Sanchez, I felt that it would most likely be a book that I would enjoy reading. I came quickly to discover that it was much more than simply a good read. Soon after I began the book, I was completely taken in by the setting and characters that were so superbly crafted by the author. He did an amazing job of bringing the scenes to life in my imagination, making me feel as though I was truly alongside the characters inside the settings he described. I cannot remember the last time I read a book so fast and found myself so sad to see it come to an end.

The book was originally written by Mr. Sanchez in 2013, and stretches across a few different genres. It fits as a children’s book, a young adult fiction book, and falls into the mystery genre as well. It tells the tale of 12-year-old Jake and his 10-year-old sister Darlene. During a romp around their new building, they come across an old skeleton key that just appears suddenly out of nowhere. This is the key, literally and figuratively, to an adventure that takes them both back to the days of 1930s Los Angeles. They find an old office door with a skeleton keyhole that only appears that way when nobody else is around except for them. Once they realize where it leads, and meet the detective that used to occupy that very office, their transformation into amateur detectives begins to take shape.

The development of the two siblings is just delightful as they become more invested in the mystery that occurred more than sixty years before either of them were even born. They actually begin dressing, acting, and talking like the people of that time. Their parents think that it is just a cute phase that they are going through, but in reality, it is an essential part of the roles that they have to play to solve the crime they are investigating. The author makes this transformation entirely believable within the context of both the past and present in the story.

The only problem I found were some grammatical errors interspersed throughout the book, but none of them detracted from this charming story for me.

I wholeheartedly rate this book a 4 out of 4! Mr. Sanchez has written such an amazing tale, that any lovers of mystery and crime would enjoy reading this story. It is also a book that is written in a way that the entire family can enjoy, whether child, youth, or adult. The story is such a vivid and wonderful read that I cannot recommend it any higher. Congratulations to Mr. Sanchez on such an excellent book! I hope he will one day choose to write some more adventures with Jake and Darlene!

Wonderful, insightful review. The plot seems very creative. Your enthusiasm for the book really comes through in the review. You did a great job of highlighting the little things that made the book special.

I particularly enjoyed the review because I had considered choosing this book a few weeks ago. I decided against it because I had read a few children's books for review last month and want to take a break from the genre. :)

Sounds great :D
It sounds like the type of books that I read when I was a kid...a little mystery, a little paranormal, a lot of fun :mrgreen2:

Fantastic review! I love how the story revolves around time traveling pre-teens and mystery. The time jumping continuity is impressive. great job!
