Official Review: Creature Of Habit by Angel Lawson

Creature of Habit by Angel Lawson is a book that not only incorporates some crime and mystery into its plot, but also contains some fantasy that will be sure to attract a varying audience.
Amelia Chase feels that fresh-out-of-college-so-what-to-do-with-myself feeling that she is willing to take just about any job. When a position with the rich and very attractive Grant Palmer comes up, she holds no qualms in accepting the role as his personal assistant. What she doesn’t realize how OCD her new boss is and surprisingly, as an elite member in society, extremely socially awkward.
Grant, in the meantime, is compelled to Amelia’s lemony-scent and is experiencing feelings he’s never experienced before. However, with a murderer on the loose targeting young women, Grant has taken upon himself to find this killer who dares enter his city. What he doesn’t realize is that the killer might have a hidden agenda up his sleeve.
Though there were some typical graphic vampire scenes, I found this to be a light and quick read. Told in alternating perspectives of Amelia and Grant, the readers are given such insights to both characters. Amelia’s strong-willed character and Grant’s mysterious persona, both become lovable and complement each other’s personalities very well. The supporting characters, Grant’s extended family and Amelia’s friends, had substance, were enjoyable, and fairly easy to tell apart, which positively added to the read.
The storyline itself was pleasant and well thought-out. Lawson does a nice job crafting a vampire story, with the usual vampire traits, but adding some humanizing features that made her characters come to life. One of my absolute favorite aspects of the entire read is that even though the two protagonists are attracted to each other, their professional and personal relationship is slow building. It is easy to see that the author did not want to rush these two into any kind of deep relationship; she portrayed that trusting another person takes time and should not be rushed.
One final note, as I mentioned I found Creature of Habit to be pleasant and enjoyable, but there were two full-out laugh-out-loud moments! These moments can sometimes be rare to find, but fortunately not here. I won’t spoil it, but I really appreciate these humorous scenes that lightened the tense ones.
With its themes of trust, honesty, and friendship, I happily rate this read a 4 out of 4 stars. For those who enjoy a vampire read with a slow-building relationship, I would highly recommend you giving this a read!

The vampire aspect was there, but like you said it wasn't overwhelming, so maybe you would like it.bookowlie wrote:Great review! I don't usually care for vampire stories, but this one seems more like a regular story with a vampire aspect that isn't overwhelming. I am going to check this one out.

It was interesting and a pretty quick read. There are definitely some questions at the end that need to be answered, but I don't want to spoil anything.enshafer2 wrote:This sounds really interesting ? I wonder what a sequel for this would be like? I am usually the one saying vampire books are cliché but Creatures of Habit seems different. I'm curious to check it out!

Thank you, MarisaRose! I wasn't sure myself when I picked it, but I love the slow building relationship, too. If you do pick it up, I hope you enjoy it! Thank you again.MarisaRose wrote:This is a great review! At first I thought, "here we go again, another vampire novel." But the more I read your review the more I considered reading this one! Glad to hear the relationship is a slow build; too many times authors quickly add romance, making the relationship seem unrealistic. Happy to hear this one made you laugh! Thanks for the insightful review!
