I`d just like to say, I hate wood floors and sweeping 5 times a day and constantly having cheerios and crackers stuck to my feet.

Yeah but wood floors are healthier than all those bacteria-breeding and dust keeping carpets :D

1. Mops are a germ breeding ground.
2. Germs are good!
3. No body ever slipped in a puddle of juice on carpet.

Not to mention scratches and gouges and the waxes and stains and sanding.

I got my kid a broom and mop for his birthday ;)

Yeah but health wise its better for you not to have dust mite particles under your feet, it may aggravate asthma, also carpet is harder to maintain. But if comfort is your king, go for it. :D

I had carpets but I got rid of them, all they were was dust and dirt catchers and mould was a problem too. I replaced them with ceramic tile and that is a lot easier to maintain. As for my mop. I hang it outside to dry.

I've never had problem with carpets except the odd spill, but never a stain, or mold. If you have asthma or indoor allergies, I can see it as a problem.

But children who live in too sterile an environment are at greater risk for asthma and allergies ;) dirt and dust is a good thing!!!

The problem here is that this is desert country, and there is a lot of dust, the wind blows constantly and the humidity is high, also one of my dogs is 21 years old and has a lot of accidents before I can get her out so for me carpets are not practical. Everyone here has tile floors. If I lived in a drier dust-free climate I would definetly have carpets. They just dont work here.

I tell you what! To be a country girl, farmwork just don't like me much. Every time I try to do anything even close to farm related I get hurt. I was at my Mama's a couple days ago, and we were about to feed the chickens. Well, first of all this dumb bag of chicken food decides of it's own accord that it wants to be evil. The thing would not open! You know how they do bags of dog food and such with that string in the top and USUALLY you can give it a little tug and it comes right out. WELL, not this bag. The damn string wouldn't come out for nothin. So, my dumb-arse comes up with this *brilliant* (sarcasim) idea! I pick up a long nail that was bent in the middle. Put it through one of the little loops in the string hold it on both sides and jerk it really hard. Well, it got the job done, but the damned string grabbed hold of my fingernail as I jerked, and ripped it off way down into the quick. Loveliness! Now I can't type good, can't do anything without bumping my injured finger over something and make it worse. Yay.....

I learned a long time ago those pull strings dont work half of the time, I use scissors or a knife. Its safer at least for me. But with your bad luck as you described, maybe you shouldnt do that either as you may cut your throat.

My rant for today is that Yahoo upgraded to a new system, they claim its faster but my opinion of it is that it is garbage. Its slow, more complicated to use, and for someone like me who dosent know a lot about computers its nothing but a pain. Bill Gates bought out Yahoo and I guess he wants to change everything and possibly charge money to use Yahoo to add to his billions. Anyway, I sure dont like it.
