Sounds like an interesting novel bringing out the essence of the different culture and ancestral background that America is known for. However, I feel the brushing aside of the rape scene is in bad taste. Good reviewing, though.

A book about how the immigrants adapting themselves in a foreign country is a captivating read to me. Thank you for your detailed review.

The diverse cultures of immigrants are the tributaries of the great river which is the American culture. This book tells of the stories of three families from different countries of origin, all converging on the prairies of American adventurism. Their dreams may be realized, but most of all the life they want in liberty and freedom will be attained here. An interesting book to read. Thank you for the nice review.

This book is a tale to tell about immigrants not just a story of a certain country but also a very timely message.

Thorough review, well discussed and very informative. Well, the book though osn't my type of read, I find the plot kind of boring so I'll pass on this one.

At first glance, I thought this was a book about geography and land formations which is not my thing. Although I can relate to the actual subject of this book, I prefer a story with a distinct line rather than a recording of numerous family's trials which this seems to be. Very helpful review.

:techie-studyingbrown: This book grasp my attention,it include large cast of charactersI think stories like these are definitely difficult to follow because they do include such a large cast of characters, but in the end they give us a much wider look into the path that life takes across generations. Most novels only give us a glimpse of life while novels that span generations help us to put our own lives into perspective.

This book sounds very interesting. It's a shame about the issues with the flow; I know how hard it can be to juggle so many characters from different backgrounds and time periods. I'm not too comfortable about that line you mentioned, but I'll try and push past it for the rest of the experience. Thank you for the honest and thoughtful review.

Thanks for delving into topics many people aren’t comfortable for sharing especially in a public setting. And especially with so many things happening in our society regarding immigrants and etc. I assume if certain people took the time to remember how it was for their ancestors to start a new life in unforseeable territory, they themselves would not be so harsh and unforgiving towards immigrants and their journey to the “land of the free”. Thanks for your review

I love the honesty in your review. How you are able to relate to the immigrants stories shows that the book had an impact on you. Race, culture, interracial relationships and politics are sensitive topics. The author was able to capture them realistically. I felt, with all the praises you gave the book, it at least gained a 3 stars rating instead of the 2 stars that you gave the book.

It sounds like the author tried to tackle a diverse group of people. I think that's amazing. I like the historical aspect of this book as well...and the immigrant standpoint. I think it would benefit many to read about the experience of immigrants because I think so many get it so wrong. Thanks for your review!
