While I don't believe the USA will fall like it does in the book, I do see consumerism overtaking our society. Everywhere you go on the internet and other places you find ads from businesses wanting to buy their products.

The world can be the same for many years and then change can come quite rapidly. Most sci-fi books give you an essence of what could happen, but only time will tell what will happen.

I don't think the book predicts the future and I hope not. However, there are some worrying signs that point to the USA loosing power.

I don't think it predicts the future at all.

I do believe it predicts the future but it'll take a really big blunder for the US to mess up that much

The political climate in the U.S. right now is really damaging the relationships with other countries, and there does not seem to be an emphasis on advances. I would not be surprised if the U.S. was not a world leader in 10 years, let alone 40.
I definitely agree with you! Some of our longstanding relationships have hit rock bottom recently. Plus a lot of people seem to think that the U.S.'s status as a world leader is "natural" and take that for granted, but it takes a lot of hard work to stay at the top, especially when other countries are working hard to catch up to us. If they continue to work hard while we slack off, of course they will overtake us!

I'm not sure that I believe things will ever get as far as this book suggests, however, I do believe that the US won't be in power for as long as some would like to believe. Already it is losing its grip on being a world superpower and being passed by other countries. Already it seems our kids are doing worse and worse on tests compared to other countries and our crime rate is rising higher and higher. A country cannot continue to rule when it rules by only violence alone.

No one can really predict the exact happenings in the future but this is a scary possibility.

This book is a perfection of the order that governs the world. I do not only see the USA here but a host of other socio-political and economic actors that will push the world into what the author describes.

I can easily see the United States going the way of the Roman Empire. We have so much debt to other countries, and there is a lot of focus on consumerism rather than long-term sustainability.

I do not think it entirely predicts the future, but it does use current events and machinations to offer a possible scenario that shows man as merely existing instead of living. Such horrific scenarios seem possible because of the promotion of Globalism, nations without borders, universal basic income, elitists pushing agendas that are basically mind control. Some things may sound good in theory, but in practice are anything but. I think the world will change radically in the future, it will need to, but my hope is that there will be enough individuals with the psychological resilience to survive.

It doesn't sound too far fetched. Hopefully this is not a problem that we will have to face later on. It's hard to predict if something like this could happen.

Nikki Dewing wrote: 01 Aug 2018, 14:43 I don't think the world created by Tom Gariffo is a possibility. But I do believe that the US will lose its power. The world as we know it will definitely cease to exist. We see how things are changing all the time. The only prediction concerning our world and our future which I believe, is what is written in Revelation. But this type of science fiction, trying to make sense of an ever-changing world, makes for very interesting reading.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I equally believe that the Anglo-American duo will constitute the last world power and the turmoils currently underway both there and all over the world are strong indications that human governmental organizations will eventually lose their grip to someone stronger and better suited to shoulder that mantel of responsibility in providing for human needs. In that light, the world will indeed be full of consumers as Tom Gariffo postulated, only, in a positive way.

I've learned to expect the unexpected. Anything is possible! But given the way things are warping up around us, I wouldn't say this dystopia is unlikely.
