Unhappy to give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It truly deserves a 5.

The two novels adopt a similar structure, in that the plot is revealed, mostly in the first person, by a variety of narrators who add their personal knowledge and involvement to elements of the plot and the mysteries involved. No one character knows the whole story.
The Moonstone is a precious Indian diamond of significance to the Hindu religion, stolen by a British soldier and returned to England, but which is constantly pursued by prominent Indians determined to return it to its rightful place.
The large yellow diamond is given to the niece of the man who inherited it on the occasion of her 17th birthday, and it is stolen from her almost immediately, on the same night. Suspicion falls immediately onto three Indian jugglers who have been seen in the district and who have visited the house. But the means of the gem's disappearance and the subsequent means of its disposal remains a deep mystery.
A famous detective, Inspector Cuff, is brought in to help solve the case, but despite his best efforts, his well-reasoned suspicions are mostly wide of the mark.
Needless to say, the crime/mystery is eventually resolved by the combined efforts of several of the characters, until the ultimate fate of the diamond itself is only described on the last page or two of the novel.
This is a very fine, well-constructed mystery novel, with a range of fascinating and multi-dimensional characters whose interactions sometimes provide insight and other times mislead the reader away from the truth. The plot races along at a generally rapid pace (there a couple of slow spots), and the truth is revealed in stages rather than in a complete rush.

It is a true written account about how this doctor came to know Elaine, a woman seeped in the occult.
This book captured me from the first chapter and didn't let go till the last chapter! It took me into a world I knew very little about. This story is ultimately about the power of Jesus Christ, who came to set the captives free!
