Thanks for the informative review. I am not a fan of autobiographies but this novel is exceptional. I feel compelled to learn the details of what the author went through and how he managed to come out the other end. Congrats on being the BOTD.

Interesting. From both the preview on Amazon and the review, I imagine there's a lot of pain still here in the author, which he has mostly harnessed to positive effect - not least in writing an autobiography. Terrific insights on his ancestral background too.

I like the moral lessons in the book. This goes to show that one can rise from any situation in life. Thanks for the detailed and insightful review.

Having a difficult childhood can make one grow up with pain and burdens that children shouldn't know. I hope this author's story encourages readers to rise above their struggles.

Thank you for your wonderful review of this book! This seems like an interesting autobiography to read. I'm sure that there's a lot that can be learnt from Thomas's life experiences.

I appreciate biographies being documented with pictures,it makes the author and the story more relatable. I hope the author's story can inspire others who grew up in a dysfunctional family.

I just wonder the kind of abuse one could encounter in the navy. Thomas seems like a brave man to rise above his alcoholism and join the navy and thereafter write about his story sincerely. This would be a nice read. Nice review

The author's story of defeating his demons and overcoming the obstacles would surely inspire the readers. However, the heavy topics like abuse and traumatic childhood experiences are what made me pass this one. Thanks for the wholesome review!

Its an amazing thing when someone can go through all that trauma and come out at the other end of it with some healthy self awareness and growth. Its an odd thought that the whole world consists of people on opposite sides of the spectrum living next to eachother everyday. By spectrum I'm talking about our developmental upbringing. I think it is necessary for us to read and understand stories such as this in order to move forward and try and change things.

This is a book that I would love to read and recommend to people affected by substance abuse and the resulting dysfunction. Thomas sharing his story will inspire someone else to take charge of their life and seek help. Thank you for a well-written review.

I very much doubt I will read this book. I found the detailed and very lengthy genealogy description in the first part of the book a tad boring and unnecessary. I am also put off by the fact that it is mentioned clearly (3 times) that we should buy and share this book so that there can be a subsequent book. Repetitiveness regarding events is also annoying. While I am sure this is a true tale of rising above abuse, drugs and alcoholism it has not gripped me enough to want to know more.

Thomas really went through a lot. But I feel he was forced by his upbringing and pressure to live such a life. In all, I think I want to find out what eventually happened.

The title of the book truly reflects what the story is all about. I know that all those addictions would be gone soon, only that I want to find out how.
