This review of "Blood Summer 1862" by Robert Hauser is incredibly insightful! 📚 The combination of historical events and fictional characters sounds captivating, and the focus on the Dakota Sioux War adds a unique perspective. Julia's compassionate nature and the vivid portrayal of the Lindquist family's resilience seem particularly engaging. The inclusion of real historical figures like President Lincoln and Bishop Whipple truly grounds the narrative in its historical context. This book seems like a must-read for anyone who loves historical fiction and thought-provoking reflections on history and human resilience. Adding this to my reading list! 🌟

“Blood Summer 1862” by Robert Hauser is a historical fiction story beginning with Thomas Jefferson in 1807 through the Dakota Sioux War with the U.S. and the Civil War between the northern and the southern states. The story explains the injustices suffered by settlers and Native Americans. The bloodshed that occurred during the Civil War was the costliest loss of American lives in history. Add to the Civil War deaths the injured and maimed for life due to the loss of limbs and the impact on the U.S. was worse than all other wars the U.S. has been involved in since the Declaration of Independence. I enjoyed the sample that focused on the period between 1807 and the coming war with Tecumseh and his united Indian tribes.

Blood Summer 1862 by Robert Hauser seems like a historical account of struggle between the American settlers and Indians. From whatever I grasped from the sample and the review, the Indians property ownership rights are quite different from that of settlers, and that is the main bone of contention. The review brilliantly captures the main theme of the story.

Definitely not my cup of tea, because even though I am quite history fanatic this not the period or continent I am interested to study. My preference is European culture and traditions and as such I will have to skip this book. Congratulations with BOTD, anyway!

A tale about the complexity of American history and all its conflicts. The fight between immigrants and natives is at the base of the birth of America. I love that there are both fictional and real characters in the story, thanks for sharing that in your review!

Your review is very informative, Veronica! Sampling, from the discussion of Thomas Jefferson's fur trading, I gleaned the blend of historical facts and fiction. I have yet to meet Julia, your favorite character though, but both the sample and your review suggest that this is a perfect read for historical fiction fans.

It's always interesting when an author uses fiction to portray reality. Political decisions, especially unsound ones, often affect ordinary people more than the decision makers. Well done to the author for depicting the effect of the war on settlers and Native Americans brilliantly.
