This book is about endurance and how much you can take from the society and its ash neglect on you. Just as Davin J Douma was neglected this book enlightens us with how penitentiary life feel like. Thanks for the wonderful review of the book.

Reaching the Shore

Your review piques my interest despite a usual aversion to non-fiction. Your nod to reader sensitivity is important and useful. I wonder, though, if your confusion caused by the timeline of certain events, could be clarified with some creative and insightful editing.

Interesting review. I have my free copy now, and just may find time to read it. It just may be hard for personal reasons but i think its about time brought up how backwards the justice system is regardless of its genre.

This is not the kind of book I would normally pick up to read, but I am intrigued by the idea of a "non-fiction novel". Davin J. Douma's case is also an interesting one, the details of which are easy enough to find with a simply internet search, but this account by his mother no doubt provides a more emotional side of the story. I'll still probably pass on this, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

.Davin J. Douma was 16 years old when he was accused of murder. He was subsequently tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison.
This is a heart-wrenching read. A 16-year-old is young to be tried and sentenced as an adult. I think there was a mistake in his trial. He might have committed the greatest offence known to man, but he deserved to be given a second chance due to his young age. It's a miracle that he was able to rise above the harsh condition of prison life at all. Thanks for the review.

Once again an inappropriate rating for a book that is not perfect being rated as perfect, when it is not perfect. Also the reviewer said they were confused by parts of the book, in what way is that perfect?

Davin is a very complex character that seems to take the fall for a friend seeking revenge. Whole his time in prison take a toll on all family members, the story from his mother's perspective is heartwrenching. I thought the first couple of chapters pulled the reader in and made the reader ask questions. I thought you had a wonderful review on a great book!

Your review was outstanding, and I'm looking forward to reading today's BOTD! The author's strength sounds inspiring, and I hope her words make as strong an impact on me as they have on you. I have downloaded my free copy - thank you again for the recommendation! :-)

Thank you for this review, it was well worded and descriptive, in my humble opinion. It was a compelling article. Although for me, the title and the book description did it already. I like that the reviewer included her own interpretation of the book.

This sounds like a very interesting book. It is very rare that a book can touch someone so deeply, with that being said I am glad I got a copy and look forward to reading it. Thanks for the review.

This seems like a complicated but intriguing story. I don't think I can ever imagine what the mother and the man himself went through. I will definitely check this out later to satiate my curiosity and maybe learn a few things from a life so different from my own. Thanks a lot for this beautiful review.

This sounds like it could be a great and inspiring book. However, prison is just one topic I have a hard time reading about, even in fiction books. This author has surely had a rough life.

Given our congresspeople want to address criminal justice reform, this is a timely book.
