This sounds like an exceptional memoir! I understand the situation Henry found himself in having to raise five children on his own! Thank you for the exceptional review!

The book is interesting and touching. It deals with family history. It talks about the love that existed between Grace and Henry, the connection between the Serenity and the author's family and how Henry's action affected his family. Henry tried as a father because it's hard to lose someone who love but for the sake of his family, he has to be strong.

Well-written and edited, today's BOTD is a memoir about family, love, loss, struggle, and survival, all of which are compared to the statue Serenity through its beauty, breakdown, and destruction over the years, as well as its symbol of hope and resiliency. Readers who enjoy books about family history will want to pick this one up! Thank you! :-)

I'm not usually a fan of memoirs, but this really intrigues me. I've also been curious about Mormon beliefs but wouldn't a member of that religion to try to proselytize me. I'll have to check this out. Thanks for a great review.

In all truth, the book is a perfect tribute to the Claylands family. I have nothing but sympathy for Henry, who had to take care of five children all by himself, resisting all forms of assistance from everyone until it was apparent that he needed them. It wasn't easy on the kids either.
I was raised by a single, widowed mom, so I know how hard that can be, and it must've been even harder for a man back in the day.
The author's inclusion of basic knowledge about the Mormon church is a big plus to the book. The sermon of the church at Grace's burial was spellbinding. It was full of lessons and wisdom, showing the church's stand about the after-life. It also talked about the history of the church and how they came to settle in Utah. I'm not a follower of the Mormon church, but it was intriguing to be drawn into their practices in an unforceful way. I'd do more profound research on the church, thanks to this book.
I'm not a Mormon but I love learning about different belief systems. And I always appreciate when a book guides us to look deeper into a subject.

Thank you for a great review!

What a sad thing to happen to a family. I relate to the part of having to learn about a parent from others. My dad passed away when I was three, and thanks to my grandparents he has always been real to me. I have tapes, pictures, and recordings of him that kept him “alive” in my life.

In my opinion my this book approached writing in a quite unconventional way or at least in a way I find new or not common and I commend the author for thinking out the box
