I'd have to say John Banville, the way he writes is so beautiful and carefully crafted that I always find him, both inspiring and enchanting.

As a horror fanatic and aspiring writer of the genre, the great Stephen King has to be mentioned as one of my biggest inspirations. Simply put, he is a master of his craft, evidenced by the wide-spread success of his works.

Jack Ketchum is also an important figure to me, his 1989 novel The Girl Next Door pushed me to forget barriers and write whatever is on my mind, regardless of the content and nature of it.

I'd have to say Charlotte Bronte. Her most well known novel Jane Eyre was mostly based upon her own life, the hardships that she faced and the trials she went through in adulthood and childhood. The fact that Charlotte went to a school like Lowood in the book and had to not only suffer horrible conditions there, but also lose her sisters to typhoid and then write a character based upon those events took a lot a courage to do. Charlotte Bronte is an amazing writer and brave and inspiring woman.

Latest Review: "Roadmap to the End of Days" by Daniel Friedmann

kathleenward7 wrote:Although numerous books have touched me and significantly impacted my life, I am most inspired by Joyce Carol Oates. I am not a huge fan of all of her novels, however, I am impressed with her dedication and hard work. She has written over 40 novels and continues writing daily at the age of 76. When asked why she doesn't slow down she responded that she still has more stories to tell. I am also impressed with the complexity of the issues which she writes about and how Joyce Carol Oates, a petite, intelligent woman, appears a vast contrast to the characters in her novels.
That's interesting. Thanks for sharing. I plan on picking up a book of hers to try out her novels for myself. Is there a novel in particular that would be a great read?
