Re: Review of Hard Kill

Post by VISION2023 »

"Hard Kill" by Bill Eckel is a captivating sci-fi novel set in a distant future where transhumanists establish a colony on the dwarf planet Eris after being exiled from Earth. The story revolves around the power struggle between two factions within the colony, the Uploaders and the Purists, as Lieutenant Brock Henry, a human peacekeeper, finds himself entangled in their schemes while facing the impending extinction of his species.

From the very beginning, this action-packed novel hooks readers with its fast-paced and unpredictable plot. The author skillfully weaves twists and turns throughout the story, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Brock's transformation from an idealistic law-abiding officer to a revolutionary leader is portrayed with riveting depth, allowing readers to connect with his character on a profound level. Supporting characters like Leal add further complexity to the narrative as they navigate personal dilemmas amidst the larger conflict.

While the introduction of numerous unknown names for creatures and objects in the new world initially creates some confusion, this issue quickly dissipates, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the story. The book is also commendably well-edited, with no noticeable errors in the text.

With its descriptive style, "Hard Kill" paints a vivid picture of an unseen world, enabling readers to envision the setting and empathize with the characters. The author's ability to convey emotions through the actions of cyborgs is particularly impressive. The growth and development of Brock's character serve as a captivating focal point, making this novel an enthralling read from start to finish.

I rate "Hard Kill" five out of five stars for its well-crafted storytelling and engaging characters. I highly recommend this book to sci-fi enthusiasts who appreciate immersive world-building and emotional depth. Additionally, fans of action novels and thrillers will find themselves captivated by the fast-paced narrative and suspenseful twists. "Hard Kill" is a must-read for anyone seeking an exhilarating journey through a futuristic world of intrigue and survival.

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for your detailed and insightful review of "Hard Kill" by Bill Eckel. It sounds like an engaging sci-fi novel with a captivating plot and well-developed characters. I appreciate your analysis of the protagonist's transformation and the overall fast-paced and suspenseful nature of the story.

Concerning your mention of the initial confusion caused by unknown names and terms in the new world, it's good to hear that it didn't greatly impact your enjoyment of the book. It can sometimes take a bit of time to familiarize oneself with a completely new setting, but it seems the author managed to strike a balance and maintain a smooth flow throughout the majority of the story.

I'm glad to hear that the editing of the book was well done and devoid of errors, as it indicates a high level of professionalism from the author and publisher.

Based on your enthusiastic recommendation, it seems that "Hard Kill" has something to offer to a wide range of readers, from sci-fi enthusiasts to fans.

I'm picky on sci-fi novels, but it seems that Brock's journey on the dwarf planet, Eris will take sci-fi lovers a fascinating read. Transhumanism sounds interesting, which is involved in the book. But I think I still skip the book. Nonetheless, congratulations to the author on BOTD!

On the dwarf planet Eris, Brock Henry, Peacekeeper Customs Inspector steps between the two opposing factions on the Royal Council with explosive results. To save his life he is converted into a cyborg using the Royals experimental parts, both factions hunt him. Additionally, the Royal Council initiates Hard Kill procedures to eliminate the Fleshie population made useless by new scientific breakthroughs in longevity drugs.

Unbeknownst to Brock, his parents have formed an underground revolutionary group to escape the planet and the coming Fleshie holocaust. They forge a union with a clandestine group of cyborgs to escape.

Brock leads then toward the surface while fighting the electronic half of himself for control of his mind and body.

Sampled it and was caught in the first chapter by both the writing and by the way the scene unfolded. I will be adding it to mt collection for someday reading because of this few minutes.

I was curious about where the story was going and I appreciate how you gave me a broad map without spoilers. The mention of some effect on the protagonist's mind was intriguing and the confirmation that the rest of the book was as well written and edited as the first few pages locked in my decision. Nice summary and thank you!

Personally, sci-fi adventures don't really capture my attention, so it's not a book I'm inclined to read. However, from the well-edited review, it seems like a good choice for fans of sci-fi and action.
