Reading or Listening Which one Do You Prefer ?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

I prefer to listen, sometimes when I read I feel I get too lost in whatever I'm reading that I'm not even sure what it is that I'm reading. So I always choose listening cause than I can focus more, and even my understanding is more thorough and precise

I would say I prefer to reading. When listening I can lose my focus may go to sleep.

I am semi-retired and one of the pleasures in reading books and listening to my audible books. I used to read a lot of books in jr high and high school. It is nice to have leisure time to read again.

I have a lot of books on my shelf from my whole lifetime to reread. I am 71 years old and semi-retired. I say that I want to do this or that when I am old and my husband says 'get doing it!!!' Haha

I'd prefer reading more, since I'm more of a visual person. And my imagination would have different voices for the characters to distinguish them in my head.

Reading just has more advantages to me, easier to focus and take notes, large variety of ways to read (physical book, on PC, on e-reader), which is very important since I can't stay in a same position for too long, plus it's nice to have the variety when I get headaches.
I mostly listen to audiobooks when I need to stay still or when doing a very mindless task, but I get headaches easily from audio stuff, so I don't engage much with audio.

I might listen to an audio book in the car, otherwise definitely reading. Except for poetry- listening to a RECITAL can be fantastic! But it has to be live :)

Good question. I prefer reading. My mind tends to wander when I listen to things. Also, I read and process information faster than if I listen to it. I prefer to listen to music while I'm reading too. I like instrumental music like classical or jazz, and I try to match it to what I'm reading.

I always read and haven´t given a chance to listening as I made excuses to myself and get distracted. But I think I tend to retain more information by listening, so maybe I will try it in the future :).

I prefer reading over listening. It's hard to listen in all environments unless it's a classroom of some sort. Reading keeps me motivated and feel more alive and also makes me feel more creative. I don't dislike or don't listen to audio books, I'm just saying I'd listen to podcasts or something. But books triumph above all.

I’m an audible visual learner so I prefer both. Sometimes I follow along and listen while reading and other times I prefer an audible book.

I like listening too, but after a time I can't pay attention. I think reading is better, it forces you to concentrate and use your imagination, more active than listening.

I have an auditory processing disorder (part of my ADHD) so being able to comprehend what I'm listening to is really difficult. I don't retain as much information about what I just listened to so I stick to reading. I can have a hard time processing speech in a day-to-day as it ends up sounding like Simlish or random words strewn together that make no sense. I would end up getting frustrated if I listened to a whole book only to barely grasp what I just listened to.
The most extraordinary thing about those long-ago times was that privileged families were allowed to gain unfair advantage for their children, by paying to send them to the best schools with the best teachers and the best facilities.
