It sounds like a heart-warming memoir where the author is transparent about his experiences (even the embarrassing ones), and I love how he was so candid about the issues of racism. Thanks for the informative review.

This well-written memoir describes James Morgan's colourful and inspirational life with a writing style that has the right dose of honesty and humour.

A heart-warming memoir that took in the 1960s with all the remarkable historical events sounds so compelling and worth reading. I hope this book gives the readers a positive influence. Especially to become parents who teach their children to be color blind. Thank you for a nice review.

James' mother is a role model for everyone. And, it's praiseworthy how the author has described his life so fearlessly and truthfully.

Rejecting an engaging memoir doesn't appeal to my reading appetite, and this memoir by James H Morgan offers many interesting aspects of his life.

This is a book that talks about the true story of the author when he was young. Lovers of biography would find it interesting. Thanks for the great review.

Your points about racial discrimination and humour stood out in the review. Thanks to the author for sharing some of his histories with us. This biography is worth reading; lots of lessons to learn.

I love when authors of books like this get into the details and provide excerpts of incidents that may be considered too embarrassing to share; it truly makes a story relatable.

This seem like an awesome memoir. The author seems to be a great character in attitude and writing. I love his mom for being an anti racist and also a Christian. Awesome review.

Some things are really too embarrassing to share, and I appreciate the author for including those times with us freely. Usually, most memoirs write about parts of their lives to convey a certain theme, I think the theme here is the life of James and what he encountered while he was growing up.

Thank you so much for the review!

I like that the author chose to share his life story. However, the book does not pique my interest enough, so in going to pass on this one. Congrats on botd. Great review.

I find this book especially appealing to me, having been born and raised in the same area. I do remember that there was one black family in town and they were brothers who went to my school. One was in my class and was accepted by everyone. At that young age, we truly were all colorblind. Amazingly, I ran into him many years later and he told me that one of his brothers died in the first drive-by shooting that happened in the area.

The Reject Bench was written by James H. Morgan about his life as a young man from a young high school boy to his love for music. His discussion of his rejection from selection by any Pony League team because he was a runt brought back my own memories of Little League and Pony League when I was the smallest player on each team and would have qualified as a runt. Fortunately, all players were placed on teams and as the smallest player I led each team in batting average and stolen bases. I did not have homerun power at that time but did finally grow as a junior and senior in high school and over the years many people have been shocked to learn I started high school as a 4'-foot 11 inch, 95-pound student. I tried out for football as a freshman and the coach told me I could not play because I was too small. I ended up running cross country. Based on the sample and official review I highly recommend this book. I can definitely relate to James and plan to read the entire book. Very good review.

Honestly, autobiographies are usually not my cup of tea. This one though? It was refreshing to read. The language was easy to follow. The people referenced were made real to me through his memories. He was quite open about his life experiences and how they made him feel as they were occurring. Overall, I hated for it to end!

I'm not really into this type of genre, but I enjoy that this is the type of book that people would enjoy. It sounds like a very interesting book about James' life and includes the segregation and discrimination of that time period. Thank you for the wonderfully written review.
The most extraordinary thing about those long-ago times was that privileged families were allowed to gain unfair advantage for their children, by paying to send them to the best schools with the best teachers and the best facilities.
