In my opinion, nearly all of these erotic scenes are cringe-worthy and most books are better off without them.

I think the erotic thing was kind of noisy, having potential of distracting an undisciplined reader. I feel erotics should go only as far as relevance to themes determines.

I couldn't agree more! I really liked the book and wanted so badly not to be irritated by the sexual scenes. I found that the overall story justified some of the means (meaning I still loved the story), but I definitely would have been just fine with less detail during these scenes - be they more adult sounding or otherwise.

There are some authors who do a really great job with these types of scenes. I just read JR Ward's The Angel's Share (book two of the Bourbon Kings series), and she does a great job of maturely approaching sex scenes without too much detail or making it seem dirty/inappropriate. She also has a knack for making them quite dirty without being cringe inducing...if you have ever read her Black Dagger Brotherhood series you will know exactly what I'm talking about.

I hadn't yet decided for sure if I was going to read the book. I'd come here hoping someone had touched on the adult scenes, as I usually can be turned off from a book based on those scenes. Thank you all for your honest opinions, I like to know what I'm getting into. I'll still probably read the book, but at least I know what to expect haha

Sometimes I wonder whether such scenes are thrown into a book to "arouse" interest. I wouldn't grab a book just because it has some steamy situations. I don't get it at all.

I looked forward to the scenes but found them to be a great let down.

I feel the same way. There was such a buildup to a great romantic event and then it just went downhill as soon as there was a potential for adult material. It was just handled so terribly.

I'm already cringing at the author's choice of words.

I have become familiar with such words considering that they are used nearly in all contemporary novels. However, I don't support usage of erotic words in novels.

The author would have used mature words in those erotic scene, though he tried but the words he used made it look immature

I really don't like how they are written, you have to write it in a way that it won't distract the readers

Personally, I would not call the love scenes erotic. The author's description didn't bother me. I just kept reading. The plot was so engaging that the love scenes were a small detail.

I could have done without them. I think sometimes it’s better to leave some things to the reader’s imagination than to try to give details. Like several other people have mentioned, I skipped those parts. I wanted to pass over them and get back to the plot. I don’t think the sex scenes added anything to the plot.

You can spend your time however you want, but you can spend it only once. :eusa-think:

I'm usually picky when reading erotic scenes, but this time I didn't find anything wrong with them. The language that the author used was adapted to the context of the book, it reminded me of something forbidden and passionate just like the relationship between the two characters. I read other books where the erotic scenes were so explicit that they were vulgar and hard to digest.
