This historical novel is something I'd read in a heartbeat. Stories with family issues and the moral predicament involving Jacob piqued my interest. The information about Jewish tradition is a bonus. Congratulations on the BOTD.

It does sound like a compelling read. The theme of friendship is an important one especially in today's society where people sometimes think they can get by on their own. I'd love to read Jacob's and Heschel's story. Very detailed and insightful review, thanks.

This sounds like an interesting story. The father deserve whatever punishment was meted upon him by his children. His absence in their lives might have caused them trauma.

Thank you for the great review, however, from the sample I read it wasn't a book I am interested in.
However, the review you wrote explains it all.

From the review, I will like to read the book. The author did a good work of fiction, yet blended it with real life events. Jacob's friends were worthy of emulation. They were really friends indeed. Congratulations to this book of the day and a satisfactory review.

This is a captivating story of survival and nemesis. I wish Jacob was able to deal with the nightmare of his past when it resurfaced. I can feel the suspense in this book. Good review you have here.

This book took me on a journey with Jacob. It was as if I was present in the story. The originality of the author is top-notch.
I absolutely agree with you. The author's way of introducing the characters and to lay and expand the story it's captivating. He touched many sensitive topics that would normally have made me quit reading the book. However, he's so careful on the way he presents them and very clear how's against them. That made ne keep reading.
Great read. Thank you for the review!

I don't usually read books like the theme of this one. I'm in the mood for a fantasy right now. But I think many people would find this interesting

I can't help but feel for Jacob. Having lost his mother at such an early age was a terrible situation to go through.

Jacob did his best to survive the hard life thrown at him. As the eldest son, he had to become an adult at such a young age to take care of his brother, Heschel. The story showed how despite the many difficulties, Jacob remained diligent and tried to learn from the people around him. After a mortifying night, he became more vigilant of his surroundings and the people he met.

From the free sample, I have gleaned a bit of a spoiler like what was mentioned in the review. It is a good book, nevertheless. I would like to read the whole book to know how the story will unfold.
