Will of the Hill sounds like a fun and witty children's book about friendship, blackmail, and resilience. I haven’t read it yet, but it really piqued my interest—thanks for the great review!

Do you think that perhaps because the prose lends itself so well to the imagination the author intentionally left out illustrations in order to keep the reader using theirs? I am in favor of anything that gets kids reading and keeps them interested for life, though. Thanks!

Yeah, I did think about that but having a 6 year old son and several nieces and nephews, I can tell what makes a child pick up the book. Illustrations make a huge difference to just pique their interest. Of course, once they grow up and become avid readers, they get over the need for illustrations and pictures.
