I like that the cover is bright, but it doesn’t scream thriller to me, and appears to be more of a romance novel with the giant heart at first glance. I think the art is fun and whimsical, but readers may incorrectly assume the book is a romance story!

Like several others, I initially thought this book was a romance novel. The main pink and red colors as well as the font resemble other romance novels that I've seen and read. My friend absolutely loves that genre, so I have seen several of her books. In my opinion, pretty font is a common theme or style used for the genre. The heart and title make it sound like a love story too. I clicked on the book to learn more about it after seeing the cover. It is eye-catching and drew me in! After reading a review, the plant on the cover and the person in the car have ties to the story. I also like that the heart looks like another monstera leaf. Although this is not a romance novel, I would still read it. The genre is thriller and mystery. I also enjoy that the book is self-published!

I think at first glance, the cover looks a lot like a romance novel. Then when you begin to look deeper the leaves on top of the heart begin to look darker like spider webs. Along with the name, I can understand where the author is coming from, wanting the genera to be understated. However, if I saw this book sitting on the shelf I would pick it up because it is a catching title, but then be surprised to find that it is a thriller.

At first glance, the bold, bright red vehicle, combined with the pretty, swirly writing, made it look like some kind of romance novel—but then I saw the woman in the vehicle and the sharp tagline of the title, and figured something was amiss under the cover. The background, which is lush and moody, and the sharp, bright red car, leaves something to be hinted at—secrets, danger, or perhaps a personal quest. I appreciate how it subverts your expectations in this case—this book seems like it's got some edge behind the charm, and that makes me pretty curious.

On first glance and second glance, I passed this book by, because it looks like a girl next door romance novel. The cover does not convey mystery, murder or thriller. I know the leaves have to do with the Arboretum in the book, but it just makes it look whimsical without context. But how to change it? I'm sure the cover conveys several aspects of the book. Maybe keep the leaves and add a body silhouette and a bottle of poison?
