It was a good blend of fact-based fictional elements and fantastical historical accounts. It was a good read, indeed. Thank you for dropping by and for sharing your thoughts.

Your writing is as always fabulous. I think you have capability to be a writer one day, and I'm not flattering you, I'm saying this because I see that in your reviews. Looking forward to reading your future novel. I wish you best of luck.

I've always been wanting to write my own book, indeed. It may be within reach or it could be far beyond still, yet the definite thing is that it should still happen eventually in due time. I am humbled by and truly grateful for your words. Thank you for dropping by and for sharing your thoughts, too. All the best to all of us.

Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to read through my review. Like you, I'm glad I picked it because it's really worth reading. I've just known from somewhere that the next volume is in the pipeline and the author already started on the third one, so we've got more of the story to look forward to. Cheers.

I was pleased to see this. I was hoping there would be more from this author. I enjoyed the review.

If the author's plan has already materialised, we should be getting the second book (and perhaps the third one, too,) in the series soon. Thank you for passing by and sharing your thoughts on the piece.

I really enjoy personal stories. I think they´re often overlooked in favor of more outlandish or seemingly sensational ones and there´s, however, something very special about everyone´s journey. Sarah seems like a very interesting, strong, complex character and I´d definitely want to know more about her.
The dilemma of science vs lore is also a very interesting one.
It seems like an almost flawless read! Very thorough review, Espie, thank you.

This book struck more than one of my heartstrings as I could see a lot of my own personal experiences in the story. After all, "what matters in a book is its meaning for you" as what has been commonly said. As to how the ideas and messages were conveyed, it's well-written and nearly perfect indeed. This isn't a surprise considering the years of thought, research, consultations, and collaborations that the author did for this writing journey. Thank you for your time and for sharing your thoughts on my review and the book.

Well written review. I agree with your observation into the dynamic between Sarah and Tom (among other things), as expressed in your comment:

"Customary societal norms and generational unique identifiers are challenged when thirteen year old Sarah disdained the rigidity of her grandfather's expectations, seasoned by her past to become a young woman in her own right at such an early stage."

Generational differences aside, it is clear that the loss of Sarah's mother at such an early age, the sexual molestation and other assumed challenges, would have "seasoned" this young lady. These experiences would indeed force an advanced maturity as demonstrated by her challenging attitude and further witnessed in her personal river journey.

Thanks for sharing these great perspectives.

Each of us has our own set of background, upbringing, experiences, and other situations that affect our perceptions, decisions, and actions. The disdainful and unthinkable nature of Sarah's childhood experiences are enough to scar anyone for life, and it is to be expected that the effects on her would show up one way or another and sooner or later. Her defiant character is one such manifestation, but I believe it's a normal defensive mechanism of self-preservation that she has mastered quite too early in life. Such, among others, gave her the inner strength to go through the rest of her young life, the challenges she encountered in her fantastical journey, and what she still had to face thereafter.

Thank you for sharing your profound thoughts on the piece and my review.

Great review! I like your style of writing, another reviewer I can definitely learn from! For instance: "As she was plunged into a thrilling yet dangerous mysterious caper, her romp turned into a feat which not only changed her life but gave her something that the others could only hope for." I probably would have put she had a mystery. I really have to learn to write to entertain instead of just stating the facts Such beautiful words in the summary and your opinion of it!

There are many perspectives from which a review could be seen and gauged. What authors and readers presently expect from OBC is that our reviews should be honest. I try to capture the essence of what I've read, thought of, and felt from the piece and express such in a way for readers to grasp them the same way I had. I'd normally treat instructional books in a matter-of-fact way. Others, like this one, has tinges of the fantastical, which I also tried to capture.

We all can learn from each other. Thank you for your insightful comments and, most especially, for sharing a piece of your mind, too.

I have read the book when it was the BOTM and liked it, though I didn't rate it that high due to its slow parts. This is a coming of age story following the adventures of a headstrong orphaned girl in the wilderness. Like you, I liked the smooth way the author interwove convention and tradition. I also liked how the author integrated his own personal background into the tale. Thank you and good luck!
