Latest Review: The Magician's Secret by Charles Townsend

Post by Nompumelelo Kubheka 1 »

Name of the book: The magician's secret

Author: Charles Townsend

Year of publication: 2021

Genre: Fiction

Language: English

About the author

Charles Townsend is a member of The Magic Circle and particularly enjoys devising new magic tricks. He is now retired from a long career running companies. In 2012 he took over a pub with his eldest son and has since built a brewery and distillery in the pub’s outbuildings. He lives with his wife Hayley in an historic house in old Harwich and has five children.

Book 2 under the "illusions of power "is yet to be published.

Story

This is a two part story. The first part is about the war that was orchestrated for selfish reasons based on lies and the action-oriented, intelligent, quick-thinking and strong-willed princess Jarla, who did everything she could possibly do even risking her life to put an end to it.

The second part is about the magician's stone. The power of the stone led to some people being killed over it and how it was used to manipulate the war outcome.

The message

With princess Jarla' success in restoring peace and the power of the magician's stone I can summarize the message in two sentences:

1. In the end the good always triumph over evil.

2. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

My review

First of all I really like the fact that the book is set in a different era than ours. I like the way princess Jarla is portrayed. She is different from what one would normally expect a princess to be. Her confidence in her leadership skills earned her respect not only to her travel mates but even to both dukes of Hengel and duke of Argent.

She fits the modern-day type who no longer believes that a woman's place is in the kitchen.

The story of the magician's crystal stone
tells us that if the power falls in the wrong hands lives can be lost and only those like Jarla can restore peace and order.

This book tells us that if you believe in something you must follow your instinct and never give up no matter what. It also shows us the importance of allowing yourself to be led by someone who is more capable than you instead of fighting him or her every step of the way

I believe this is a good read for both young and adults who enjoy western movies like me. Overall I give this book 4/5 on both ratings.
